About this listen
Paul is a sophomore in college in the early 2000s and like many his age; he doesn’t really know who he is yet, he loves a good time, and doesn’t take life too seriously except maybe for his mild Napoleon complex. He has joined both the Marine Corps Reserve and his high school friend’s “security” business where he participates in trafficking marijuana.
Without a strong sense of who he is or where he is headed, he copes with a simmering substance abuse problem. Paul’s mentor, an old Marine named Jerry who is as wise as he is sharp tongued, introduces him to a beautiful and intelligent young woman named Lindsey.
Lindsey, intrigued by Paul’s virility, has a strong faith and sense of self-worth that will be Paul’s saving grace. Now deep in a new relationship, Paul is called to the war in Iraq.
War time service in the Marine Corps provides Paul the identity he has been looking for, but it comes at a steep cost. Trauma leaves Paul even more vulnerable to his demons than before.
Wounded physically and mentally, Paul’s erratic behavior strains his relationships with both Lindsey and Jerry. He finds himself being pulled deeper and deeper into a black hole of pills, crime, and uncontrollable drinking. Soon, self-isolation and the inability to connect with Lindsey due to trauma will couple with a horrifying discovery to bring Paul to a precipice where he will have to choose who he really is.
