Summary

Win the trials, earn a crown—or fail and lose everything.

The heir of Embermere has unexpectedly died, and now a new prince and princess must be crowned.

I've been hiding out with the dragons, but then mysterious fae show up at the dragons' stronghold and abduct me at the King's command.

The royals of Embermere are hosting the Fae Heir Trials to find their successors. The winners will marry and become the next to rule the fae lands. Turns out I'm the King's illegitimate daughter, and the wicked queen intends to kill me off during the challenges.

I find myself thrust into a barbaric tournament where death is all but guaranteed. I'm competing against the most gorgeous, deadly fae warriors of the realm. Determined, agile men who've been training to claim this chance all their lives—including clan leader Rush Vega.

Rush Vega is the Crown's favorite, devastatingly charming and dangerously tempting. His combat skills and dark secrets will be my undoing. With my survival on the line, my heart must resist his pull and those intriguing moonlight eyes. He's the queen's spy, and that makes him my number one enemy.

My life might have become a game of savage brutality, but the Queen of Embermere underestimated me.

I was born a fighter. And I intend to win.

I love Royal selection type books and this one has hooked me in. Just enough in intrigue to keep you on your toes

Narrator did a fairly good job despite the poor material. Heroin is portrayed as stubborn and rebellious. Argumentative and unable to read the room. The lack of intelligence behind her thoughts and action just come across as feral instinct. Storyline is cliche. Unable to finish this due to character getting more and more annoying.

Annoying Heroin

to be honest I don’t think a book should finish without an ending I read a lot of books but the ones I buy book 2 and onwards the books end with a conclusion to what has been happening and you want to know what happens next. Don’t get me wrong i want to know what happens next but I won’t buy another 3 or 4 books to get to a satisfactory ending, which it looks like is going to happen, i don’t need to know that much and no I am not a skin flint i am up to book 18 in one series and waiting for the next which i have already brought, but i can see i will be just as frustrated with book 2 not finishing I just hope it doesn’t finish in the middle of a fight. Sorry if this is too long winded it is my first review but have to worn other readers and hopefully authors as well please finish the book and don’t expect people to spend more on another book or books to get to an end. poor choice of an ending maybe should have made the book bigger and incorporated book 2 at least until the escape then maybe i would continue.

i enjoyed the story line

Rushing to listen to book 2 now.
Bridget what a voice actor powerhouse narrating the book to a much more stronger postion - keeps the story moving foward & making the writing come across less tedious - Bridget voice is supreme.
worth a listening
