Danny died a less than heroic death on Earth, was reincarnated in a new world, gained access to a mental sanctuary that ranks his skills, learned he can do magic, discovered that he can't fly, tricked rich old ladies into buying handbags, crafted himself a crude anti-magic girdle, went to magic school, grew a couple of apple trees, was drafted into a secret paramilitary organization, tamed a pet most people would rather never meet, regrew an elf's ears, gained a split concentration ability in the form of his former Earth self, and much more.

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Ryker only had one goal in his life right now: Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It didn’t work out that way though. At all. He’d become the Count of Dungeon, made a hostage, married off to the false queen’s daughter against his will, and had his county made ground zero for a religious war. To top all that off, the Dark Lord of the North wants to see Ryker personally.

An unexpected disappointment
I came into this with high hopes. I LOVED the first two books, and was fully expecting to love this one too. Boy was I mistaken. Before anything else I should mention that there is one very distinct thing that can make me abandon a book, no matter how far I get into. That something is, character reset. Or in other terms, making an otherwise powerful, fun, and entertaining character helpless. Be it mind control, power nullification, coincidences that put an otherwise intelligent person in a bad situation he can't escape. It started off so well, then did away with Cranny, and replaced him with a generic red shirt. Big mistake in my opinion, but it's not the end of the world. What really did it was a simple thing. In one move, ONE, all his abilities are gone, his sanctuary is practically gone, religated to being a Deus Ex Machina later in the story. Because, obviously it'll come back when he needs it most. Now he's kidnapped, with no powers, and on artificial deadline. It's like playing f£cking Zelda again. Oh you got all this cool, interesting, and fun stuff in the last game? Better get rid of all the junk so you can find different junk. It's a stupid plot device. The character has gotten so powerful that he literally needs to be stripped of all his powers so the plot can progress. It would be one thing if it was an actual fight, where he's up against a tough enemy but is untimely defeated and captured. That's something I can respect, and then look forward to a rematch. But no, the whole thing took maybe 2 minutes. I honestly doubt I'll get much farther in the book. I've given up on series's bigger and better than this for resorting to the same thing. And judging by the other reviews that have cropped up, I'm not alone either.

My least favorite of the three books right now.
A good third of this book is just him being tortured and cruelly treated. Plus by the end of this book you feel like the author went back and re-wrote what they intended for the storyline to be. What was presented to be extremely rare in the second book becomes commonplace in this one. It’s like when the author decided to write this book they decided to go back and redo what was known history. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth especially with a series that you like. I am still undecided whether I would read a fourth book if it came out this one just ruined the series for me.

Least favorite of the 3 books
This book is tough and infuriating to get through, feels more like it should be volume 2.5 than 3. Aside from Danny, all of the other established characters are barely in this book. There is no relationship or character development. This story only exists to •Exposition, exposition, exposition. •Briefly introduce the Drow, Dwarves and Beastmen. •Make Danny far more powerful. •Make everyone older. •Talk about a possible external threat not yet introduced. I hope the next book is better.

Total letdown
I eagerly awaiting this new installment. I mean, the first 2 books were outstanding so this third one should be good as well. Sadly I was mistaken and it was a total letdown. The MC's development was spot on in the first 2. This 3rd book seems to have went in the opposite direction. The MC seem to have forgotten everything he learned previously. The situations he finds himself in seem to be the author's attempt to show growth or character development. It missed the mark by a mile as the MC acts more childish then he does in Book 1 or 2. With that being said I am not sure if I will listen to the next one.

Rushjob
In short, the book feels incredibly rushed. While it starts out as the previous books, it then turns into cliché territory with the MC being captured and rendered powerless. It somewhat drags on a bit if I'm honest, until things go from bad to worse for the MC. After that, the rush to the end begins. Things happen, time passes, add a massive info dump, adventures that seem to make sense for the MC and then he gets reunited with his crew. While in one way, the rushed part of the book is kinda a blessing since the MC by himself turns out pretty boring without him interacting with some of the already established characters and the new ones are very one dimensional. And with the comic relief from the previous books being gone, it really isn't all that interesting. It slows down at the end and becomes more like the previous books, but a big chunk of the middle is a real slog to get through at times since, while a lot happens, none of it is interesting.
