Publisher's Summary

All ice dragon shifters have a fated mate. But Andrew was never allowed to find his. At 18, he was forced to bond with a rich 70-year-old man.

Now that man is dead, Andrew is unable to bond to anyone else. He’s never felt so alone.

Timber has worked as a professional daddy dom for more than 10 years, when his agent comes to him with an unusual proposition. An omega from New York needs a hired knot, and he’s willing to pay an exorbitant sum. The contract comes with a picture of a beautiful man and a list of demands that are so in line with Timber’s personal interests, it’s uncanny.

At the end of the list is a nervous request:

“I’d like you to call me ‘baby boy'. If you wouldn’t mind.”

Timber can’t refuse a request like that.

Expensive is a gritty D/s love story set in the omegaverse with age play, hurt/comfort, and mpreg of the dragon egg variety. It was previously released as a short story. This version has an additional 30,000 words.

While Expensive is set in the same world as the Heron Manor series, it stands alone.

Andrew and Timber had so much chemistry between them!

The premise of the story interested me and I'm so glad I gave this one a chance.

The narration was enjoyable and on point.

So much angst and emotions

This book was full of so much angst and emotions and yet it was so good! I loved all the different twists and turns in the story but my favorite part was the two main characters. Their relationship made everything worth it. The narrator also did a great job bringing the world and characters to life. I couldn’t get enough of it!

Good Listen

Andrew is an Ice Dragon and has been through a lot due to his family taking advantage of him. He has been cursed to have a bond ache and never have a bonded. He hoards books and loves a certain sexy porn star. Timber has been through the wringer literally. He is a red wolf and protective of those he cherishes. He is a Daddy and proud of it. I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review.

Andrew and Timber

A great story full of angst and lots of twists and turns that will take you on an emotional ride. Although Andrew hires Timber, there is an attraction and chemistry right from the start and their true feelings just keep growing as their relationship progresses. Overall it’s a great story with a great narrator, just a little too angst for me. Still worth a listen though. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

Money Can’t Buy Happiness

I thought the story was well written. I was captured from the beginning and finished in one listen. I love that the book had a moral message while still delivering some steam.

A book I want to hug!

Amy has a way of weaving incredible emotions into every word. From the opening chapter I was caught up with Andrew. There are so many emotions, I'll admit to tears, and Andrew continues to fight to make his own choices and have control over his life.
Timber is swoon worthy. An protective and compassionate alpha always ready to care for his partner. I loved Timber and his way with Andrew is beautiful. I fully believed their love after only 3 days, it followed wonderfully with the story.
So much happens in such a short story. So much pain, sacrifice and healing. I loved it and hope there are many more stories in this world, I only wish we could have found out what shifters their children were and perhaps see them hatch, but other than that it's a wonderful heartfelt story 😍

Fab

This is a fab book that features age play, hurt/comfort and angst. I really felt for both Andrew and Timber with what they have dealt with in the past and what they have to deal with to be able to be together especially when others are conspiring against them. There some steamy scenes and a brill egg laying scene.
Brill narrating that brought the story to life.

Interesting

An interesting story by Amy Bellows, Andrew and Timber were great characters to get to know and have an unique story. Zachary Zaba did a super job with the narration.

Emotional!

This was a highly emotional, angsty, intriguing take on shifters. I really liked following Timber and Andrew as they navigated their rather unconventional relationship and everything they had to go through to get their HEA. They were sweet and hot together.

Zachary Zaba did a fantastic job with all the characters, his voice is very pleasant and he brings a lot of emotion into his narration, which made the book even better for me.

An emotional romance that made me ache

Andrew and Timber made me ache in ways I wasn't expecting. The two of them went on such a journey in this audio, and I genuinely couldn't have anticipated any of it. The beginning stages of their fling were such a whirlwind, with heated nights of passion and tender touches that made me desperate for their love to last beyond its prearranged timeframe. The idea of a man who couldn't form a bond being with a man whose unwanted bond caused him to constantly ache for that connection set the stage for a bittersweet relationship, and those undertones stuck with me throughout the whole book. Even as I tried to be happy that Timber and Andrew had found each other, the knowledge that they could never truly give each other what they needed weighed heavily in my mind. I almost wish this story had explored how their romance could overcome those societal norms, but instead Andrew and Timber's journey took them down a much darker, unexpected path. I honestly don't know how I feel about the warlocks and blood magic that defined the ending of their story. The sacrifices each man had to make felt fitting for how much their connection meant to them, but also like way to much to handle. Yes, Amy did try to show how their love was more important than what they left behind, but even knowing things turned out okay in the end didn't make me feel any more settled about what they had to do to get to that place.

Second chance at happiness

Amy Bellows is a new author to me but I was certainly willing to try her book. I’ve been on a shifter run and this isn’t even my first dragon shifter book. I liked the premise of this one – a man who is bound to a life he doesn’t want because of ancient traditions and family. Ugh, Andrew’s family.

But Andrew has a caring staff member who suggests he find someone to satisfy his needs. With infinite resources, Andrew selects Timber, a porn star. Timber is ready to admit the money would be nice, but there’s something about this young man that calls to his inner protective alpha. One taste of Andrew and he knows his life has irrevocably changed.

Then a pregnancy derails everything.

But I kept hoping the men would find their happy ending. That against all odds, something good would happen to both of them. Well, I was quite pleased with the ending of the book. There was a lot going on with other characters and if there are more books, I’ll pick them up as well. Finally Zachary Zaba. I quite enjoy his narrations and he rounded out this lovely book nicely.

Heartbreak and Hope

An absolutely heartbreaking yet amazing story of one man forced by his family to do something that might ensure he never finds his true mate and another who knows what he wants in a relationship but hasn't found it yet. Hope is a fragile thing for both Andrew and Timber, but they manage to hold on to it long enough to find each other. Zachary Zaba's performance is a stunner here. Every nuance of the characters emotions is perfectly captured.

Unique and intriguing

*This review may have modest general content spoilers.*

This story has a very unique and intriguing story-line with a mix of shifters, warlocks, magic, and technology. The title of the book is very telling, because the MCs end up sacrificing just about everything to be together. It gets very dramatic, and rather strange and eerie about 75% through, and took a turn I wasn't expecting. Honestly, at that point I was ready to stop listening, but I had to know how the story ended. There is an HEA in the end, and the MCs end up changed, happy, and free. Maybe that is part of the lesson...that they had to give up the things that tied them down to move on. IDK. It's not the story I was expecting, but still well-done and very emotional. It has unique attributes that I had never seen before, like the bond ache and 'muzzling' shifters to prevent them from mating. I have mixed feelings about the story, and strangely, it didn't leave me with warm feelings. Perhaps after all the drama and sacrifice, the brief showing of happiness at the end wasn't enough for me. YMMV.

The narration was excellent with the soft, meek voice of Andrew and the strong, caring voice of Timber. All the character voices were different, well-suited, and easily distinguished.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Perfectly imperfect

Andrew is so lonely he's desperate for affection and companionship.
Timber has suffered as well in the red wolves pits.
Both of these men have suffered horrific pasts but they refuse to let it define them.
Timber was so wonderfully sweet and protective of Andrew, will to show him how much he deserves to be loved and be happy as well.
Zachary Zaba did an amazing job narrating and bringing the characters to life.
