About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Jack Reacher will make three stops today. Not all of them were planned for.

First – a Baltimore coffee shop. A seat in the corner, facing the door. Black coffee, two refills, no messing around. A minor interruption from two of the customers, but nothing he can’t deal with swiftly. As he leaves, a young guy brushes against him in the doorway. Instinctively Reacher checks the pocket holding his cash and passport. There's no problem. Nothing is missing.

Second – a store to buy a coat. Nothing fancy. Something he can ditch when he heads to warmer climates. Large enough to fit a man the size of a bank vault. As he pulls out his cash, he finds something new in his pocket. A handwritten note. A desperate plea for help.

Third – wherever this bend in the road takes him. Impressed by the guy's technique and intrigued by the message, Reacher makes it his mission to find out more . . .

We all need Jack Reacher – a righteous avenger for our troubled times.

Listen to an exclusive interview between Lee Child and Jeff Harding at the end of this audiobook. For the first time, Lee Child and Jeff Harding talk about bringing Reacher to life in audio and celebrate the 30th Reacher adventure.

Lee Child has handed over to his brother and the Reacher stories are not in the same league despite his protestations in the interview at the end, that the transition is seamless. Reacher is very dull in this one and so are the other characters. And story. The complete lack of quality descriptions of landscape and geography also significantly diminishes the reading experience. I simply don’t think Andrew Grant who is much younger than his brother, relates to geography. Earlier Reacher novels created the terrain in vivid dimensions…… not so these latter ones. There is also way too much repetition of the Reacher philosophic mantras. What a bummer.

Disappointing

I enjoyed the earlier books, and yes I enjoyed this book too, but I would prefer a bit more smart talking by Reacher, as he did in earlier books. I would also enjoy a bit more loan Reacher action, and a bit of Reacher ‘lover ‘em and leave ‘em’ partnerships. I do enjoy Reacher’s style of rough justice and I appreciate that this book did not have a ghastly theme overall. The violence was actually very limited.

I liked the twisty interwoven plots. Reacher shows a bit more of a need to make his protagonist suffer rather than just a straight delivery of justice.

Nicely plotted, beautifully read

Starts off like always but lacks the build up and tension of earlier Reacher novels. The end is there before you are invested.

Promising but never get going.

I enjoyed the multiple portions of story line that culminate in a single thrilling end point. Another Reacher classic, keep them coming.

Classic Reacher 👍.
