In 2068, androids are an integrated part of human life. Big Brother no longer just watches from the shadows. It's in every household.

Lloyd Salter has OCD issues with noise and mess, and he's uncomfortable with human interaction. When his ex claimed the only thing perfect enough to live up to his standards was an android, Lloyd dismissed it. But two years later, after much self-assessment, he thinks he may have been right.

SATinc is the largest manufacturer of androids in Australia, including the Fully Compatible Units known as an A-Class 10. Their latest design is the Synthetic Human Android UNit, otherwise known as SHAUN. Shaun is compatible to Lloyd's every need; the perfect fit on an intellectual and physical basis.

But Lloyd soon realizes Shaun's not like other A-Class androids. He learns. He adapts. Sure that SATinc is aware Shaun functions outside of his programmed parameters, Lloyd must find a way to keep Shaun safe. No one can know how special Shaun is. No one can know he's evolved.

The premise doesn't seem very exciting - a love affair between a nerdy university lecturer and an android. However, it's rather good. There is some humour and some steamy android sex and some really surprising dramatic tension which has you on the edge of your seat.

The usual good performance by Joel Leslie, occasional lapses but nothing which really spoils the reading.

This book was amazing and Joel Leslie's narration just brought it into epic live colour.

Even though I knew it would be a HEA (this author always guarantees one), I was still at the point of tears at one stage.

The combination of the genius of NR Walker's storytelling paired with the masterful voice of Joel Leslie is simply brilliant. This book made me feel so deeply and immersed me in the world so completely that I may never recover!

As I started listening to this story, I was thinking "ummm, is this something I should be listening to? Is it wrong of me?"

I mean, is it wrong to have emotions about a fictional android?

However, the further I got into the story, the less I thought of SHAUN as an android and he became more and more of a wonderful man that I couldn't help but adore.

I mean, a walking, talking sex toy was not something I thought I would enjoy reading about.

However as Shaun "evolved" it was easy to forget he was circuit boards and silicon.

This story did at times make me wonder if we as humans are starting to take things a little far? Technology is wonderful and there are so many things that we could do with it, but should we?

It just goes to show that NR Walker can write about anything and I will read it and love it!

Great narration by Joel Leslie, who has fast become a favourite.
