About this listen

Lucy Locket, the long lost granddaughter of a duchess, has never been a part of Society. One day, she was living a secluded life as the prisoner of a criminal, and the next day she was an heiress in a world she did not even remotely understand. She can't curtsy, she doesn't hide her emotions, she's too clever by far. But in three months, she must marry a suitor with a royally bestowed title, or she forfeits a fortune—leaving her and the duchess in dire straits.

All Henry Beaumont wants is to prove himself to Society and step outside of his half-brother's shadow. So when the duchess asks him for a personal favor involving her newly found granddaughter—with a hefty thank you reward—he leaps at the opportunity.

It seems as if Lucy is trading one prison for another. Henry has now become a permanent fixture as her charming yet iron-fisted taskmaster and tutor in the ways of High Society. Lucy and Henry spar in an epic battle of wills—and even rapiers. But Lucy's past and her surprising, undeniable feelings for Henry may doom their undertaking if he declares his love for her . . . because without a title, he can never be hers.

Contains mature themes.

An excellent period book, so much better than I thought it would be. Wonderful narration, with a well thought out plot. It cleverly travels from a seemingly bleak looking outcome to the desired happy ever after. 5 stars.

The author clearly has a talent for storytelling so I will be seeking out his other titles given how engaging i found this one to be. It was delightfully entertaining. Rough around the edges, Lucy was an incredible character -unenexpectedly well spoken, educated and highly intelligent for one brought up by thieves. I liked her very much. Her instructions as to the correct behaviour in noble society under the tutelage of those in her confidence provided for great amusement as did the formal occasions whereby her skills (or lack thereof) garnered from that short education were put to the test. Everything from her questions, observations, witty retorts and set downs were clever. Don't hesitate to enjoy Carmen Rose's excellent narration of this book.

Would love to be a fly on the wall!

I really enjoyed this charming romance. There is smart conversation between Lucy and Henry and a slow build up to their love. There are roadblocks along the way as the romantic tension builds. I really like that there are not chapters full of the standard sexual content. It’s enjoyable to follow as the attraction builds. A light-hearted read if you enjoy historical romance.

Lucy and Henry Charisma Charm and wit

Thank you Sawyer North for writing an engaging witty regency romance without having succumbed to out of character sex scenes (that I usually flit past) that do nothing to forward the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale and will be looking for more from this writer.
Carmen Rose is a wonderful story teller giving inflections and emotion to the characters bringing the story to life.

This is how you do a regency romance
