Publisher's Summary

Patrick Hoffman burst onto the crime fiction scene with The White Van, a bank heist thriller set in the back streets of San Francisco and a finalist for the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award. Now he returns with his second novel, Every Man a Menace, the inside story of a ruthless ecstasy-smuggling ring.

San Francisco is about to receive the biggest delivery of MDMA to hit the West Coast in years. Raymond Gaspar, just out of prison, is sent to the city to check in on the increasingly erratic dealer expected to take care of distribution. In Miami, the man responsible for getting the drugs across the Pacific has just met the girl of his dreams - a woman who can't seem to keep her story straight. And thousands of miles away in Bangkok, someone farther up the supply chain is about to make a phone call that will put all their lives at risk. Stretching from the Golden Triangle of Southeast Asia to the Golden Gate of San Francisco, Every Man a Menace offers an unflinching account of the making, moving, and selling of the drug known as Molly - pure happiness sold by the brick, brought to market by bloodshed and betrayal.

Crazy story-great narration

This is one crazy story. Puts one in the mind of a Tarantino film. The narrator is excellent. Great voices with spot on accents and impeccable comic timing. One of the best.

Life is too short to listen to this

I could not get thru chapter 1, and I can almost listen to anything. What a horrible book, horrible narration.

Don't go into drug dealing

An engaging, nerve wracking tale of a Molly ring. As the title says, every single person is bad news. If you needed more than Breaking Bad to convince you that drug dealing is dangerous business, this book should cure you of any aspirations of becoming a drug lord.

Ugh! Hated it!

Obsenities held together with no discernable plot line. I gave up on it! I'm a clinical social worker and help people trapped in this lifestyle but I have no desire to bring it home with me.

What?

This is perhaps interesting to some - but I didn’t get the point and lost interest before the third set piece. Waste of time and money

Difficult to follow story with strange lilting narration.

I get that a story may be told from various perspectives, but this one was just odd. It begins with the point of view of a like-able enough guy sent to straighten out a drug deal for his buddy in prison. Because of the strange way in which that first section of the book ends, the listener is less apt to buy into the next character’s point of view.

The constant addition of new somewhat important characters and the backstory needed on main characters to whose point of view we then switch muddies up the story enough to make it far less enjoyable and that much more confusing.

I thought at first that the narrator was reading in a funky, sing-song lilting way with strange upticks and emphases as part of the first character’s style and mood. Nope. Annoying through the whole book.

Unfortunately, this book soured me on both author and narrator.

not so good

this book sounds like it is someone's bad writing hobby. I do a bunch of audiobooks and I have a pretty good tolerance. skip this one.

unbearable narration

I couldn't finish this book did to the narrator. He has an awkward cadence and it's distracting. Also, instead of just reading and slightly changing his voice for different characters, he exaggerates everything and everyone. it's like he's acting on stage the entire time and I couldn't concentrate on the story.
