Publisher's Summary

The topic of the fivefold ministry - the apostle, prophet, teacher, pastor, and evangelist appointed by Christ to equip his church (Eph, 4:11) - was central to two movements in previous decades: the Shepherding Movement in the 1970s, and the New Apostolic Reformation in the 1990s and early 2000s.

While both movements saw important elements of this ministry restored to the church, they also saw misunderstandings and abuses that prevented the fivefold from becoming more widely established in doctrine and practice. Yet a fresh wave of fivefold restoration is coming to the body of Christ and with it, fresh understanding about why this ministry is so critical to the growth, health, and success of both the local and global church.

I cried at the begining

Listening to this book brought me to tears because my husband and I pastor a church. It was heart clenching because as Pastors (of a small church) we are expected to "be-all". Many churches really miss the apostle role in their body. Yet, in the same way, I wish Jonathan would have defended pastors a little more because if the apostles don't understand their calling and are not stepping up as fathers, someone has to do it. This is why Pastors are starting churches without an apostle role. Pastors are willing to do whatever it takes to disciple the sheep, even if the other parts of the body are unaware of their calling. We are desperately missing the apostles, and loving prophets in the church body, and I would love for more evangelists and teachers to join together with the church, as so many are off doing their own ministry because, well... they can. How much more effective it would be to have a 5 working together toward on goal! - this is essentially why I cried. Because if the body understood the contents of Equipping the Equippers, the church would be so much more glorious. Thank you, Jonathan, for writing to help us understand our callings and roles better.

Strong doctrinal teaching

It wasn't what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised! The author gave strong Bible evidenced teaching on the role and order of the church and her governance.
