Publisher's Summary

As the colony grapples with the realization that New Earth is not as uninhabited as they’d once thought, tensions between the colonial settlements rise to new heights, and the Colonial Defense Force finds itself caught in the middle.

When Connor uncovers evidence of a militant colonial faction secretly exploiting the NEIIS, he has to investigate. Connor learns that some of the colonial settlements have been holding back discoveries of their own. He’d thought the NEIIS were a threat to the colony, but he was wrong. They all were, and the truth is beyond anything Connor could have imagined.

Meanwhile, Colonel Sean Quinn’s latest mission brings him off-world to investigate a previously discovered NEIIS settlement. When all communications from home go silent, he must return to New Earth to investigate. Cut off from everything, Sean must lead the crew of a CDF warship against a mysterious foe. Sean must forge a path into the unknown if he’s to have any hope of unraveling the mystery.

Emergence is the sixth book in the best-selling First Colony military space opera series.

Best book so far

The First Colony series has been a great read. I was looking for good space sci-fi while I wait for the next Expeditionary Force book. This book has been the best one so far. I'm really looking forward to the next book and will be here for the full story.

what? it's already done and I have to wait?

Very good continuation of series but a bit rough on the ending. still worth a read, but you might want to await the next book first.

Stretched thin, but still enjoyable

TLDR; For the length, this felt a bit busy and thin. You're basically following multiple stories/perspectives at once, which is fine, but done here it felt like each story was underdeveloped. Still a good listen, and I enjoyed it, but more time spent on each story would have been better.

Spoiler Free: The story follows on where the last book left off, You follow the story from Conner's, Sean's, and Dash/The other tech guy's perspectives. It's a fun way to get more story and worked fairly well here, the only problem is that I left each story feeling a bit underdeveloped. It's a good set-up piece and offers major expansions of the "world" the books take place in. I am a little concerned that we're getting a bit too much cast at this point. The characters a distinct, but with the addition of new characters in every book, I'm worried that I'll start needing a guide to keep track of everyone.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book, the setup was good, the narration was good, and the series opened up what we can expect in the future, overall I'm looking forward to starting the next one.

Done with the series after this book

I have to say I think this series has jumped the shark for me at this point. The last book seemed to be setting up towards having conflicts with the native inhabitants on the planet and this book seems to take the series into an entirely different and I thought unnecessary direction. There also never seems to be a movement in the overall plot. We are always on the edge of “there’s this big mystery on the planet and here’s what it’s all about” but we never get to it. I’m not sure what the deal is but it seems like there’s no end in site for this series and I think this will be the last book for me in the First Colony series.
I do like the narrator, Scott Aiello.

Adventures continue

I enjoyed the book, the characters and the new tribulations and disasters. Maybe I'm mean but things seemed to resolve a little too easy and quickly. Plus, we had 3 story lines going and they seem flip a lot within a chapter. I'd lose track of which plot line I'm on with the narration.
Since we are left at the end with a opportunity for further books. I'll look forward to the next one.

better book

One of the better books in the series; real sci-fi. Like how the story is evolving.

Shallow storyline.

I felt this book was rushed to production. I’m very happy to be able to read the books as quickly as I can obtain them, but I would rather have a book to leave me with an in depth storyline and satisfaction.

Why do you need to crank to 11?

There are so many directions this story could have gone in but we are back to “overcoming the unsurmountable odds” arc that is done to death and beyond and not that well 99% of the time.
Take your time and actually tell the story, fill in details and stop stumbling from battle to battle (that you are not good at)

Skipped the final battle...

The story built up the suspense to a final battle, but then just skipped right over it with a sentence or 2; felt like I had missed some chapters...disappointing.
