Publisher's Summary

They’ve spent years exploring this world, but they were living on borrowed time. Only they didn’t know it.

Six months ago, Connor learned what the alien race that populated New Earth feared - a mysterious enemy who nearly brought about the collapse of an entire civilization. To help the colony prepare for this new threat, Connor rejoins the Colonial Defense Force.

Using alien technology, Connor opens a gateway to another universe hoping to learn more about the threat. Instead, he receives a colonial distress beacon. Six months ago, they’d left people behind on a mission, all presumed dead. The beacon might be them, or it might be a trap, but Connor will not ignore the call for help.

Fearing the beginning of another war, the colonial government would rather do nothing than risk bringing attention to the colony, but it’s already too late. The colony stands upon a crossroads. Its future is uncertain. They’ll have to adapt if they’re to survive.

Vigilance is the seventh book in the bestselling First Colony series.

I really enjoyed this.

I really enjoyed the duel storylines of Connor and the other guy, the emotionally immature one who captains the ship.
I could almost hear the author trying not to say "Stargate" but it worked and worked quite well.
It's a good book, I enjoyed the action but it was too constant, I would have liked to linger on the not so action packed scenes as they are important too after all life's not all beer and skittles.
I gave the book 5 stars because it said "Internal heads up Display" a lot less than the last book also for being a great story in it's scope and character development, the protagonists were flawed and inspiring, human yet more than human, relatable. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to hear the next one.

WHYYY KEN LOZITO, WHY?

Did you really have to leave it like that ?? Dude! All I can say is I hope you’re back to writing super fast because I can’t wait to find out what happens next! So I fell in love with the First Colony series immediately. I binge listened to the first four books and loved them all. Then I saw that 5, 6 & 7 had come out and I’d missed them! That won’t happen again as I’m now following Ken Lozito (on Amazon and goodreads just to clarify...not a creepy stalker). I still liked 5&6 a lot, enough to keep going... but I’ll admit I enjoyed the first four a bit more & Vigilance is back to that level. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for authors to keep long series fresh and exciting so definite props for being successful in that . This series is what got me reading sci-if; I hadn’t given it a fair chance before and I’ve found I quite like it! . I love the whole crazy new world in this series, the wacky New Earth creatures and especially the characters (yep, crushing on Connor Gates!). And Scott Aiello is such a great narrator!! He is absolutely one of my fav male narrators. His accents are great and his timing and tone delivering the one liners and witty comments make me laugh out loud. My only complaint (and it is a big one) is I don’t want to wait to find out what happens next!! Whoever said patience is a virtue never listened to this series! Thanks to Ken Lozito and Scott Aiello for another great listen!

Meh.

The story line is all over the place, the narration is somehow even worse than usual, and then the book just kind of stops in the middle of nowhere.
Then the author gives us his success story.

Ending?

What happened to the end of this book? We were right in the middle of a battle with several storylines hanging and all of a sudden I'm listening to a letter from the author!?! Aside from that, this once-great series seems to have gotten stale. I was excited to see this story released because I really like the characters and had been wondering what Gates would do next, but really wasn't all that fond of this installment. I'm sure Ken Lozito's next effort will be better.

good book worth the listen.

I really like the series this book was just setting up the next book so I understand that it wasn't super super adventurous all the time but it was a good solid book so I can't wait to see the next one.

YOU LEARN NOTHING FROM THIS BOOK!

It is like the story has middle book syndrome but worse. "Vigilance" really didn't advance the plot from the last book. Basically, it is a waste of time and money.
Lars is still saying I know something you don't know and Noah is still in a coma. Connor rescued 1 person from the other planet but the guy's mind is gone. So, again, we know NOTHING from this new threat. Shawn/Sean ( I don't know which spelling is correct since this is an audiobook) took emeny prisoners but they aren't talking either.
REALLY!! What a waste, I'm so ticked off.
You can skip this story and just wait until the next book because you won't miss or learn anything important.

Really like how the books flow

I’m on the road a lot and I always look for a book that will keep me interested To pass the time and the miles. I’m also a big sci-fi and fantasy fan this series I has kept me riveted. The characters are likable and although sometimes it can be a little predictable, I still enjoy this series and look forward to the next book

A Captivating Saga.

I stumbled across these books by accident and from the first book I was hooked. Transported away into the future to a far off Galaxy, on to a new and untamed world.. it is excellent.
