Publisher's Summary

"You never have to be without me, Laney, never." He lied...my everything I ever knew, trusted, wanted...I am, in fact, without him. On my own and out of my shell, I learn new things about life, friendship and...myself. Like what you've always known may not be what you've always wanted.

Dane Kendrick awakened things within me that I never knew existed, unraveling and uncovering the real Laney Jo Walker. I'm a new adult...so is my story.

Rating this was a struggle

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

I struggled to rate this book because it was very well written, and well narrated. But it left a really bad taste in my mouth by the end, and I had to skip entire chapters because I just couldn't deal with the plot. I loved all of the characters except for the main one -- she was an awful, awful person. Narcissistic and self-centered, and not very easy to relate to (even though I am a person who actually married her high school sweetheart). By the end of the book, I wanted her to be hit by a truck. She wasn't likable and made terrible choices ... like the typical 18 year old maybe? But I just couldn't enjoy the story.

Maybe I'm just too old for this

Seriously felt like an adult at the children's table with this one. It's sugary sweet disney, with just a hint of r rate sprinkled in. Fairytales do come true, gorgeous girl doesn't know she is and then suddenly becomes popular, feel like I've seen this movie kinda thing.

Did Anyone Else Just Want to Smack Laney?

I love this author, love this book but there were just too many times in this story that I just wanted both of these great guys to move on and find someone who would appreciate them. I understand teenage angst, but this chick ... I don't care for weak female characters and Laney's neediness made her seem weak. Fortunately, this story is so well written and the characters are fully developed with each showing different levels of depth that it's easy to overlook the flaws of the characters. Cause in all honesty, I wanted to smack Evan too for being so strung out on this girl that seemed to take way more than she ever gave.

Amazing narration -- love the trio of narrators. Hope to hear them in other books in the series.

Definitely worth the price I paid. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. This was a great start.

Broke My Heart and Warm and Fuzzies

This book was so very well written. It was bittersweet because I absolutely adore Evan and felt Laney and Evan's pain but in walks Dane.. Le sigh..... Dane. He's such a quiet alpha that absolutely adores Laney. He handles the relationship between Evan and Laney so well and wow... I just adore their love story.

I love this group of friends!!!

16 and Older Beware

If you are 16 and younger this book may be entertaining. I did not finish because it felt like I was reading a teenager’s diary.

My Two Pennies

The narration was wonderful l, I always love a duo when it comes to the multiple POV’s in stories, they’re passion is clearly heard and not a single monotone moment. Makes you want to continue to listening. Looking at the reviews before one clicking I was on the fence because there’s such a mix for brown ends, I took the chance and it so happy I did. This is a sweet YA romance with a bit of a love triangle blended throughout. Laney has been friends with Evan since they were small and were inseparable, as they go off to college the distance changes things a bit and Laney meets Dane & his friends while out with her roommate on a dorm crawl type event. There’s no second guessing for me I’m all the way #TeamDane this man is the sweetest most caring man and the nickname he gives her is spot on. I felt the storyline moved at a great pace and held my interest throughout. We’re even given a twist towards the end that I never EVER saw coming. I will without a doubt be heading into book 2 to see what the future holds.

It's the with extra chocolate and sprinkles!!!

I was introduced to Ms Hall's Evolve series some time ago, and was thrilled to only recently stumble across the Audible versions on sale where I could afford to get the set. I've read and re-read the books countless times, but adding the audio was such a bonus. I'll admit that the voice of Dane did not match my expectations, but then I've even had a hard time painting a fully clear picture of him. The narrator's nailed the other characters, though, especially Laney Jo. Even knowing where each chapter is leading, the narration brought everything into sharp focus. The rush of young love, the excitement of college and being away from what you've known for 18 years, topped off by the separation of part of your heart and entire being, then forcing the full you that remained deep within to emerge and enable you to be someone who could get beyond the pain and make everything out of your experience count. Then to allow your heartbreak allow another piece of someone to penetrate and make it whole again, so that a fresh new you emerges on the other side. The deep valley of Evan's sorrow and heartbreak in g loss is even harder to hear. The narrator's took Ms Hall's incredible dialogue and characterization skills and enriched the reading experience tremendously.

Sweet story

I'm really glad I found this book. I find it harder and harder to find books I can finish. I finished this one, happily.

Good story but.....

I like stories that mirror real life instead of creating fake happy endings - the world is not a fairy tale, and in that respect, this book was great. BUT it is way too long and I hated the "heroine" by the time I was mid-way through listening. She was selfish little girl in the beginning and never grew. Each time her actions were described as "cute" by one of the male leads, I wanted to scream. This book could have 3 hours edited from it and not lose one single important moment.
