Publisher's Summary

Darkness falls.... Despair abounds.... Evil reigns….

Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix, cruel ruler of the Empire. Now Eragon must travel to Ellesméra, land of the elves, for further training in magic and swordsmanship, the vital skills of the Dragon Rider. It is the journey of a lifetime, filled with awe-inspiring new places and people, each day a fresh adventure. But chaos and betrayal plague him at every turn, and Eragon isn't sure whom he can trust.

Meanwhile, his cousin Roran must fight a new battle back home in Carvahall - one that puts Eragon in even graver danger.

Will the king's dark hand strangle all resistance? Eragon may not escape with even his life....

Great story; terrible narration.

the books are good. please don't let this dissuade you from the books:
This narrator is a joke. his dragon is, as someone said, a cookie monster interpretation. he mispronounced so many words it jolts the listener out of the mood. like 'trebuchet' does not have a hard T at the end!
alas that there is no other narrator for these books on Audible.

Cookie dragon

The dragon voices are incredibly annoying, so much so that I had to stop listening to books that I adore. Do not buy this audio book! It will ruin the story, but the book or find one read by someone else

Saphirra's voice was gravely Yoda

got a handful of minutes in before I had to stop, usually I love this series and I'd deal with bad narration for the story, but Saphirra sounds like a gravely version of Yoda and by her second line I was completely done. I understand that some people prefer 'a proper dragon voice' but I'd always imagined her with a female voice, so it was a bit of a shock when I heard her speak 😂 otherwise, great story

Terrible Narrator

The book is amazing, great story and plot. However the narrator dissuades you from reading. The dragon sounds awful and so many words are mispronounced. Book one narrator was great but he hadn’t narrated a full version of book 2. Overall great book but awful narrator

Poor narrating

What disappointed you about Eldest - Part One?

The narrator. The story is brilliant!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Saphira, but the Narrator killed her voice. It is supposed to be nice and pleasant sounding voice yet he gives her a gravely throat cancer voice which made me cringe every time she had a vocal line.

Would you be willing to try another one of Gerrard Doyle’s performances?

No!!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Eldest - Part One?

N/a

Exciting, thoughtful and moreish.

Satisfying sequel that reflects Paolini's growth. Doyle's narration is good, distinct dragon voices are necessary.

Dragon voices

Why does he make the dragon characters sound like they’re big, unintelligent, chain smoking bruts? Really distracting

Great but

This is a great title and story but I have one piece of criticism. I imagined that Saphira sound like a calm woman, not like a chainsmoker

My god the narrator is bad at dragon voices

More dragons = more awful accents. It’s just too gravelly to listen to comfortably. It’s a shame because his other accents are okay, but he’s overcommitted to an awful idea here

Again the Saphira's voice

As with the first book it is great! But again the voice for Saphira just doesn't fit.

Chapters do not match

The chapters in the audiobook are a mess. They need to be reorganised. One chapter can contain two or three chapters with the last one being cut off and carrying onto the next ‘chapter’ according to audible.

Was annoying trying to sort it out while listening to it in between reads as I have the physical copy of the book.

Other than that, decent book. Just fix the chapter issues.

Child hood

The Inheritance cycle is where my love of the fantasy genre comes from and each book when I read them I could not put down. I have listened to them all probably 5 times on top of this as well, Gerrard Doyle’s voice is one from my childhood.

Alright, will listen again

Well, i can say its all well read apart from the voices of the dragons and the werecats, in my opinion they are jarring and ugly where they should be powerful and impressive, it's akin to a tiger trying to roar but instead grunting like a pig. Once one gets used to that its perfectly brilliant!

Perfect story

I have read this series several times, and everytime I get goosebumps.

Currently listening to this at night to fall asleep to and as familiar with it as I am, always get swept away into the world.

The narration is amazing, with the differation between characters done amazingly well.

The dragons voices.... Very interesting choice of direction but i can understand it. Personally I always thought of the dragons as having normal voices due to them being thoughts but you soon move past them and get used to it. DO NOT LET IT DETER YOU FROM THIS SERIES !!!

Amazing narration. Perfect story. Intense immersion.
