About this listen

In the sleepy, scenic Southern Highlands of New South Wales, a beautiful young woman goes missing.

Six years later, recently divorced historian Rose McHugh leaves the city to start a new life in the Highlands and finds a roll of film buried in her back garden. On it are photos of the missing woman. Against the advice of an enigmatic detective, she uses her powers of persuasion and her knack for deciphering clues to pursue the case. As Rose searches through tangled secrets and hidden places haunted by the past, she realises there is a killer at large. As she makes new friends, and dangerous enemies, Rose closes in on a suspect-but will she solve the mystery too late to save herself?

Set in the atmospheric villages and forests of the Southern Highlands, Echo Lake is a compulsive listen that will keep you guessing until the very end.

'As cosy as it is compulsive, Sauers brings the eerie beauty of winter in the Southern Highlands to life. A highly recommended, vivid read!' JACQUELINE BUBLITZ, author of Leave the Girls Behind

'Not just a whodunnit, Echo Lake also contemplates what makes for a good life, reminds the reader of the importance of historical truth and throws in a ghost story for good measure.' MARYROSE CUSKELLY, author of The Cane

'Move over Miss Marple. With its indefatigable heroine, mist-shrouded setting, cast of quirky characters and as many trips to the pub as there are mysteries to solve, Echo Lake is cosy crime at its dynamic, atmospheric best - and Sauers is certainly a writer to watch.' ANNA DOWNES, author of The Shadow House

'Full of atmosphere; the very landscape echoes both freedom and foreboding. Rose McHugh, middle-aged and newly single, is a convincing, compelling and intelligent protagonist who stumbles onto a mystery and won't let it go.' VIKKI PETRAITIS, author of The Unbelieved

The setting was very enjoyable in this who-dunnit with a likeable bunch of friends trying to solve a missing person’s cold case and a fresh murder..

Enjoyable romp through the Southern Highlands with an amateur sleuth.

Listened in 2 days: very digestible, mood-evoking mystery with likeable characters (especially Bob, my personal favourite) and sensitivity to cultural issues. Took some unexpected angles that kept the plot interesting. Will read author again. Narrating was warm and easy to listen to.

Enjoyable plot, easy to digest, warm narrator.

I have a request for Autable please. Could you please possibly make the stars a little bit bigger please, I use a Head Pointer to type with and the Stars to show how much people liked the Books are very small. I love Autobole.

I really loved this book. It was really interesting and very hard to put down. As I absolutely love the Crime stories, this one was quite outstanding for me. I can’t wait to get into more stories just like this one. I would also recommend this title to others.

An enjoyable, well paced murder mystery, great characters, settings and narration. I look forward to many more from this Author, and hopefully more set in The Southern Highlands. it has inspired me to plan many daytrips and weekends down there too.

Really Enjoyable Mystery and Great Narrator too.

I felt as though I was travelling with Rose through the southern highlands. Making new friends (and enemies). Giving in to my own curiosities. Thoroughly enjoyable, kept me company whilst detailing a car.

Great Australian storytelling

My husband and I listened to this book together. It was very interesting and exciting kept us on the edge of our seats and guessing to the very end. Being residents of the southern highlands we loved all the little inclusions about our local area. Highly recommend this book to anyone especially if you’re from the southern highlands.

Such an exciting and interesting read. Kept us guessing

Storyline was quite good but this book dragged on & I wasn’t a fan of the main character. Lacked depth.

Was just ok…
