Publisher's Summary

It’s 2788 and only the "handicapped" live on Earth. Eighteen-year-old Jarra is among the one in a thousand people born with an immune system that cannot survive on other planets. Sent to Earth at birth to save her life, she has been abandoned by her parents. She can't travel to other worlds, but she can watch their vids, and she knows all the jokes they make. She's an ape, a throwback, but this is one ape girl who won't give in.

Jarra makes up a fake military background for herself and joins a class of norms who are on Earth for a year of practical history studies excavating the dangerous ruins of the old cities. She wants to see their faces when they find out they've been fooled into thinking an ape girl was a norm. She isn't expecting to make friends with the enemy, to risk her life to save norms, or to fall in love.

Stands up over repeated listening

Ever since I first discovered this book I reread the trilogy every year and it still holds up and is enjoyable reading.
This story is on repeat often throughout the year as either listening seriously or listening when I can’t sleep so it doesn’t matter if I do nod off in bits as I have listened so much.
The narration is great.
I love the story of a world where some people can travel to other planets through a portal but others cannot because they would die.

Wow just wow, an amaz story.

I loved this story so much!!!!! I can't even describe it!!! I did both listening and reading for this story. I had trouble at first getting into the book as I was getting used to how the characters spoke and the wording used, but listening helped me a lot.

Once I got into it I managed to find it easier to read but I continued to listen as well. The performance was so zan!!!!!

When I first heard the speaker I squeeled, I knew them from another series I listen too (The Lizze Grace series incase you were wondering), and they are AMAZING! I was not disappointed. Every single character was brought to life, each with their own personalities. I could tell who was who as each voice spoken for a character was different.

The best bit was the ending, I got goose bumps listening to the last seven chapters as the situation got real. The combination of a brilliantly written story, combined with an amazing speaker brought the story to life. I have no words besides being totally grazzed at the end.
