Von den düsteren Zukunftsvorhersagen und Weissagungen des Michel de Notredame, genannt "Nostradamus", ahnt der amerikanische Star-Fotograf Darian Hawks nichts, als er gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Amy zu einer Reise nach Venedig aufbricht. Auch die schrecklichen Geschehnisse, die sich zur selben Zeit in einem englischen Sanatorium zutragen, bleiben dem frisch vermählten Ehepaar zunächst noch verborgen. Erst als Darian Hawks die Fotos sichtet, die er in Venedig geschossen hat, beschleicht ihn ein mulmiges Gefühl. Denn seine Kamera hat beim Fotografieren offenbar Dinge eingefangen, die vorher gar nicht zu sehen waren...
