Critic Reviews
"Readers will be drawn into the narrative and discover it’s not just another SEALs book but a manual for learning life's lessons and moving forward without regrets. " —Booklist
"Drownproof is a raw and honest look at the discipline and mindset required to overcome the challenges that confront us all. From the demanding world of special operations to high-stakes personal adventures to the world of business, this book shares hard-earned wisdom for navigating life’s toughest tests. With a focus on resilience, self-reliance, and leadership, Drownproof is an exploration of how to keep moving toward your goals, no matter the odds. " —Jack Carr, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Red Sky Mourning
"If the world went completely sideways from a zombie virus outbreak, and we had to put together a militia to save the human race, Andy Stumpf would be my top draft pick. Exceptional people that you can call friends are one of the most valuable resources in this life. They provide examples of how to conduct yourself in a way that you admire, and can aspire to. Their accomplishments fuel you with inspiration, and their thought process enhances your perspective. Andy is one of my favorite examples of this, and knowing him has made me a better man. I’m honored to be his friend." -Joe Rogan

This is a book I wish had been around twenty years ago—it would have given me the tools and resilience to better handle a recent challenge that knocked me out both physically and mentally, where lost weeks turned into a lost year.
Yes, while there are references to military operations, they’re simply used to frame the core lessons.
If you approach this book with honesty and openness, it may be uncomfortable and hurt at times—but Stumpf’s voicing of this book is refreshingly direct: honest without being harsh, grounded without preaching. He combines hard-earned insight with sharp, self-aware humour, making even the toughest truths easier to face—and even harder to ignore.
Rather than offering empty motivation, the lessons here aren’t abstract—they’re forged from real experience, real failure, and real consequence. That’s what gives them weight, making this an essential, practical and easy to follow guide for anyone feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward.
This has already proven not to be a ‘one & done’ read, I’ve found myself referring back to chapters to adapt and reassess my approach, safely back to the surface.
If you’re younger and reading this, stop what you’re doing and buy it now, your older-self will Thank You. If you’re older and reading this, stop and do the same, because it’s never too late to stop drowning.
