Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

It's lovely
It's an adaptation that... makes some cuts as adaptations generally have to do, while staying really strong (I feel) to the spirit of the original novel. The voice acting is brilliant. There are short cast interviews at the end, plus the (gorgeous) music without voicing, and some bloopers, if you like that sort of thing.

A well acted adaption.
While the acting throughout was excellent, and the music and sound effects as well, I felt this adaption lacking many of the qualities that I enjoyed about Bram Stocker's original novel. While attempting to modernize this classic story the makers of this production, while bringing us a properly chilling, well acted and heart stoppingly good tale of terror, many of the character traits that I enjoyed about these classic characters and many of the parts of the story that I found particularly moving or profound became a little lost in "translation". However, despite this, still an overall good adaption that I would recommend to horror enthusiasts but not necessarily fans of the origin title.

Creepy, engrossing, well-told story
Big Finish does it again with another fantastic rendition of a well-known classic. Jonathan Barnes’ adaptation and narrative is so engrossing and well-paced that I found myself staying up late to finish the play in one long run. The full cast version of the story is such a treat that it will appeal to all listeners. And the accompanying sound design is so well done I felt surrounded by the world of Dracula throughout. Audio is such a great medium for this story. I will always treasure this selection in my library.

Wonderful Radio Drama
I’ve been curious about checking this out ever since learning that Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffat would be doing a Dracula series and now I get to hear Mark Gatiss as the iconic Count. Not only did he nail it, but everyone else did a great job! This is definitely a version I think will be hard to top as far as modern Dracula radio dramas are concerned. If you’re a fan of Dracula and radio dramas, I highly recommend it.

Mark Gatiss as Dracula, Big Finish prod. 2016
After listening to three productions of Dracula this week it is surprising how different they are compared with each other. All were enjoyable and each had their faults/ positives; though if you wish to listen to a more faithful telling of Dracula I would suggest the Mark Gatiss version (Big Finish Productions).
Mark Gatiss as Dracula, Big Finish productions 2016 (3hrs 15mins)
Listened to this twice as first time wasn’t entirely convinced by it, but subsequently concluded it has a much better ‘everything’ than the other BBC adaptations - and Mark Gatiss as Dracula is superb.
My only criticism is the sound design (incidental music + soundscape) didn’t always seem to naturally blend with the vocal recordings. Ideally it should invoke the right atmosphere and flow with the rest of the production so barely be of notice. And I do stress this criticism is only occasionally, not with all music/ sound effects.
Dracula 3hrs 15mins
Interviews with the cast 30mins
Soundtrack 15mins
Outtakes 5mins
-------------------------
Overall 4hrs 5mins
The other productions were I listened to were:
Frederick Jaeger as Dracula, BBC Radio 1994 (3hrs 19mins)
David Suchet as Dracula, BBC Radio 2006 (1hr 54mins)

Bela Lugosi's Dead!
I've been the biggest fan of Bram Stoker's chilling classic since I was 6 years old. Now at 30 I finally come across a version that is perfect! Every version of Dracula I love but there's always 1 or 2 slight flaws but not with this! Every character is delivered perfectly and Mark Gatiss is my new favourite Dracula! Every person involved in this was absolutely stellar! Please listen to this if you love Bram Stoker's work. The people involved have done him proud here. Listened to this in 1 go as it was that good! 😁🦇

Excellent Adaptation of the Novel
Everything about this is great. The acting, soundtrack and adaption is spot on. It's not a complete faithful adaption but it's one of the best and is karhkey faithful and Mark Gattis is amazing as Dracula. However audio quality seems to be an issue. This wasn't a problem when I first purchased it. But I broke my device and have had to redownload all my titles and this is a lot worse quality than it was before. Checked and it's not my device as I also downloaded it onto my PC am experiencing same problems. These are not present when I went directly to Big Finishes website and downloaded a sample and on investigation it looks like audible has reduced the bitrate and sample rate since I originally downwloade it. Such a shame

The strongest radio adaption of the novel yet!
Incredibly faithful adaption, even preserving the epistolary style of the original novel. The tone and the atmosphere is gratifyingly straight-laced, avoiding the melodrama and camp of other productions (The version with David Suchet springs to mind). Gatiss' restrained, under-played performance as the eponymous villain is perfect; wonderfully sinister without divulging into cliche. The supporting cast is uniformly strong as is the overall sound design. Fans of the novel will rejoice and casual listeners will be enraptured. Highly, highly recommended!

Big Finish's brilliant Dracula
This adaptation of Dracula is wonderful. I've been a fan of Big Finish's work for a considerable number of years and when I heard they were doing an adaptation of Dracula I felt giddy. Mark Gatiss is a brilliant Count Dracula, both persuasive and compelling and manipulative and destructive. As well as this Big Finish's Van Helsing and Jonathan Harker are perfect. I genuinely felt the chills going down my neck. I shivered as they followed the path of my spine. I won't say too much more other than to give this adaptation a chance. Big Finish are amazing and you won't regret using a credit on this. If you only ever listen to one adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula make it this one!
