About this listen

Double Standard tells the story of Dr. Rene James, a nationally recognized facial reconstruction surgeon in her early '50s. Rene, who is single and has engaged in casual relationships with several medical residents at her hospital, finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. When she determines who the baby's father is, she finds out that he wants her to keep the baby. She agrees.

When we meet Rene, she is suing her employer—a university and its hospital—and her direct boss for sexual and workplace harassment. Much of the story is told through the court proceedings, which carry the story along in an interesting and engaging way. We follow Rene through the trial, and shortly thereafter when she has her baby. The story's twists and turns will keep the listener invested until the last word.
