First

This is the first book I have read by Karen Rose and really enjoyed the story well written about domestic abuse and especially when the abuser is a police officer. How brave are the people who have the courage to escape. Jeff Harding never disappoints when narrating. All in all a good read.

Quite good

I didn’t expect this book to be as good as it was based on my first impression of the front cover but I was pleasantly surprised. The narrator was very good except for imitating female voices which could be expected.

Narrator ruined it

Unfortunately the narrator ruined the story for me, especially when reading woman’s voices. The story on the whole wasn’t too bad but failed to engage me mainly due to the narrative.

Shallow characterisation and cliched dialogue

I like the fact that the author is one of the few writers who has taken on the task of telling the story of violence against women in the home. However, the characters in this novel are stereotypes and their dialogue cliched. But I thank the author for courageously shining a light on one of the most common sorts of assault in the world - the one in our homes.

Narration was not a good listen...

I found the narration of this book very offputting but persevered because the storyline was interesting.

Good thriller

I enjoyed this tense thriller but what spoilt it for me was the romance part . Distracting but not in a good way quite laughable and too mills and boons for me .

Thriller or soft porn?

I only managed a couple of hours of this book but got really fed up with the detailed descriptions of one character's lustful thoughts about another character - heaven knows what it would be like if they actually got together. Pity, because I really like Jeff Harding as a narrator and the premise of the story was a good one. Had to return it.

Unbearble narrator!

Had to refund this book after just a couple of chapters due to the fact that the narration is terrible. Every female character sounds like Ace Ventura impersonating Scarlett O’ Hara. Just unbearable.

Enjoyed revisiting this story.

In this book, first published in 2003, we are introduced to the characters in Chicago; Dana, Caroline and the rest of the Hunter for clan.

The main story is about Caroline and how she becomes a different person as she escapes an abusive relationship.

As always, Karen Rose write an interesting story.

Cheesy

I’m afraid I found this book painfully cheesy and not very believable. Prefer a bit more grit.

a good read

I loved this book a bit soppy in parts but that adds to the story it is sad that it is based on fact both men and women are in this tragedy every day. I also loved the person reading the voice suited the book
