About this listen

Myer lives on a NZ mountain farm with her border collie, chickens, sheep and her faithful horse, Mustard. She hunts and forages, and barely leaves the mountain, only venturing into town to stock up on provisions once or twice a month. It’s on one of these trips that she notices a toddler choking in a public carpark. She springs into action and saves the child, and then slips away, back up the mountain.

It’s been seven years since she fled to the edge of the world and reinvented herself, but her spontaneous act of mercy has brought her into the public eye. Which means that, despite all of Myer’s best efforts to outrun her brutal past and disappear, he will be able to find her at last...

A chilling, high-octane thriller from the bestselling author of Tell Me Lies and Trapdoor.

The quality of the Audible freebies does vary, so this was a pleasant surprise. A great, relatively short listen that kept me very entertained. Will look for more from this author and its narrators.

Randomly came across this and really enjoyed it. Easy listen and great characters with good narration.

Really enjoyed the story

Story: a focus on emotion of main character

Narration: not believable, NZ accent by Australian narrator who did not know genuine accents and pronounced local names especially Māori names and place names, terribly. Frustrating!! Could easily have got NZer to narrate. Obviously wasn’t thought important enough to story- and really affected story!
I didn’t imagine this: every time the narrator mentioned Māori or Māori person, the tone was with distaste. Heck! What is that about?

Author has Māori nom de plume but I would say is not Māori or if s/he is, one who is Australian born bred with no knowledge of genuine Māori and NZ Aotearoa ways.

Must do better!

Accents not realistic for characters, story enough of a ride

Captivated my attention
