Publisher's Summary

Discovered after more than 40 years, a vintage action-adventure novel by one of the world’s most successful thriller writers, involving murder, corruption and a daring hijack in the Caribbean.

Bill Kemp, an ex-serviceman working in London as an insurance investigator, is sent to the Caribbean to determine the legitimacy of an expensive life insurance claim following the inexplicable death of businessman David Salton. His rapidly inflated premiums immediately before his death stand to make his young widow a very rich lady!

Once there, Kemp discovers that Salton’s political ambitions had made him a lot of enemies, and local tensions around a forthcoming election are already spilling over into protest and violence on the streets.

Salton also had friends in unexpected places, including the impossibly beautiful Leotta Tomsson, to whom there is much more than meets the eye. Kemp realises that Salton’s death and the local unrest are a deliberate smokescreen for an altogether more ambitious plot by an enemy in their midst, and as the island comes under siege, even Kemp’s army training seems feeble in the face of such a determined foe.

Unseen for more than 40 years and believed lost, Domino Island was accepted for publication in 1972 but then replaced by a different novel to coincide with the release of The Mackintosh Man, the Paul Newman film based on Bagley’s earlier novel The Freedom Trap. It is a classic Bagley tour de force with an all-action finale.

Old school but great.

Something really refreshing about a murder mystery on an exotic Caribbean island in the days before cell phones or social media. Full of intrigue with well developed characters in a classic gambling/ politics/ Crooked cops/ secret lovers kind of way. Engaging British reader. Perfect escape time.

I miss Bagley

I have read everyone of his books multiple times so was thrilled to get a new read. Domino Island lived up to my Hope's and expectations.

Good story & performance, flawed file

The story is apparently recently released. It is interesting, a little transparent but well-read and reasonably captivating. Part of the recording has skips and flaws unfortunately. No spoilers to be had from me. I am fairly picky and recommend this one.

A long lost masterpiece of the Adventure Thriller genre

Desmond Bagley is a Grand-Master of the Adventure-Thriller Genre. As such, he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Alistair MacLean, Duncan Kyle, Helen MacInnis, and Hammond Innis. In a review of one of Bagley’s books, MacLean wrote, “He writes better than I do.” While not one of his best books, Domino Island will still keep the reader engaged and turning the pages until late at night.

Superb find beautifully narrated.

I won’t spoil the story but the narration by Paul Tyreman is fluent and colourful and he captures the spirit of what is obviously based on the Bahamas. This is a great story about skullduggery among the political class...or is it?

Excellent thriller

A real treat to have this so ably completed after all these years. This is an excellent thriller, and the narration was very good indeed, the whole thing had a fine pace and energy. Hannay and Kemp are a great investigative duo, it would be brilliant if this turned into a series for them.
