Publisher's Summary

A Recorded Books Audio Original production of songs and stories performed by Dolly herself, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics goes beyond the glitz, glamour, and rhinestones to the warmth, heart, and soul of a treasured pop-culture icon.

In this exclusive audio performance, the 10-time Grammy Award-winning artist weaves her words with music and memories to give listeners the stories behind the stories of her most cherished songs. And with some 3,000 songs to her credit, Dolly uses her gift for lyrics to connect to people of all genders, generations, and geographies.

Showcasing nearly 100 of her most popular songs, including “Jolene”, “I Will Always Love You”, “9 to 5”, and “Coat of Many Colors”, to name a few, this one-of-a-kind audio experience delivers answers to fans’ most burning questions: How close did Dolly come to singing “I Will Always Love You” as a duet with Elvis? How did she become an actress? And exactly who was Jolene?

Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics is a must-have memoir for fans of country music, music history, and (of course!) Dolly herself.

This is not a book

There were only a few reviews when I bought this, none at the time said that this was more like an interview.
It’s also not a very good interview, there is no flow or conversation. It’s like Dolly had a page of questions and then answered them one at a time.
It’s actually hard and annoying to follow, because there is no flow.
I have never wanted to return a book before, but I want to return this one - how do I do that? I am so disappointed, because I absolutely love Dolly and I so wanted to love this “book” too.
There are better Dolly stories and interviews than this one. Save your credit.

Repetitive and not a book

I wanted to like this but it is really just an extended interview. If I had started a drinking game every time Dolly said "it's one of my favourite songs", I would have dropped down drunk less than halfway through.

Cheerful and fun

You will laugh in the car, or where ever you’re listening. The format is one question or comment read by a voice that sounds straight out of six feet under ( remember that show ?) , then Dolly Parton chatting for 30 min, and singing her favourite lyrics to her songs ( spoiler they are all her favourites) And it’s perfect. She’s open about her life, and if you want to know a bit about the means of songs you’re in luck. The Epstein comment shocked me . The sound production is super easy to listen to. No echos or background noises. Great fun. More interview then book. And some promos in there, but you don’t mind cause it’s a fun listen .

Can't imagine 'reading' this any other way

Throughout this audiobook there are snippets of Dolly's songs played and it adds so much to the experience, I can't imagine enjoying the book half as much without it. Dolly is a fascinating person and it is great to hear her voice and her perspective. she comes across very genuine. Not a whole lot of ground breaking info or gossip, but still lovely to hear straight from Dolly herself. You can hear the passion in her voice. Worthwhile listen for Dolly fans, songwriters, musicians, country music fans and any young woman wanting to be inspired.

What an amazing woman!!

Great first hand walk through her life times personalities and songs, so much energy and effort in everything you don’t see it from the on stage or on screen persona.

What a positive person Dolly is

Loved the way the questions were asked without hearing them and just letting Dolly answer in a natural chatty way

Nice book.

This was a nice little book. Dolly narrates well. It’s more like listening to an interview, than reading a story.

Makes you fall in love with Dolly

Interesting way to approach a book. Frustrating and yet enjoyable to hear snippets of her music - made me want to download a few albums. What a prolific songwriter. And what an amazing and loving person. Well worth a listen. I enjoyed it.

Magnificent Dolly

I loved the way Dolly was just remembering her songs & why she wrote them as if she were talking with her close friend, no airs !

Dolly was great

As Dolly was the narrater I thought this was great & she has such an interesting life but at times she seemed to ramble & at times it was a hard listen !
But overall I enjoyed it
