Story
In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all.

Tom Baker returns as The Fourth Doctor (2009-2011)
Almost ten years ago, this was one of Tom Baker's early "audio" returns to the character of The Fourth Doctor with what turned into a three part series - "Hornet's Nest", "Demon Quest", and "Serpent Quest". Eventually these were collected into "The Nest Cottage Chronicles" in 2015, but oddly enough this didn't get the all important Audible Release until April 2019. Content is about 16 hours 37 minutes with another hour of "extras". Basic Cast is Tom Baker (of course!) and Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey, with Richard Franklin (who played Capt. Mike Yates of U.N.I.T.) Also in the final two episodes of Serpent Quest, David Troughton plays the role of "The 2nd Doctor" which allows for a little Dueling Doctors Humor (sort of.. ..spoilers). Downloads are One Big File (17h 37m) or Two Files broken into (14h 38m) and (2h 58m). Also comes with a 31 page PDF document which contains scans of the CD inserts - front cover, rear, etc. Depending on how you access the file (Mobile device, Itunes, Cloud Player) there are 25 chapters in this release: Part I: Hornet's Nest Chapter 01: Stuff of Nightmares Chapter 02: Dead Shoes Chapter 03: Circus of Doom Chapter 04: String in the Tale Chapter 05: Hive of Horror Part II: Demon Quest Chapter 06: Relics of Time Chapter 07: Demon of Paris Chapter 08: Shard of Ice Chapter 09: Starfall Chapter 10: Sepulchre Part III: Serpent Crest Chapter 11: Tsar Wars Chapter 12: Broken Crown Chapter 13: Aladdin Time Chapter 14: Hexford Invasion Chapter 15: Survivors in Space Part IV-ish: Extras/Bonus Content (one hour) Chapters 16-25: Extras, with Chapter 24 being a twenty-two minute interview with Tom Baker. Description? It's Tom Baker returning to his role as The Fourth Doctor with over SIXTEEN HOURS of content. Does more need to even be said? It's like the classic series, only what the classic series SHOULD have been. It's entertaining, it's fun, and overall it's well worth the purchase. I've have had this for years, but the CDs are tired-and-worn (or missing). Can now get the whole thing again for just One Credit and never need to worry about scratching or misplacing the discs. Other releases set in the "Nest Cottage" Universe ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1) Doctor Who: The Thing from the Sea https://www.audible.com/pd/Doctor-Who-The-Thing-from-the-Sea-Audiobook/B079MDZX13 2) Doctor Who: The Winged Coven https://www.audible.com/pd/Doctor-Who-The-Winged-Coven-Audiobook/1787534448

This is a very enjoyable listen, simple easy stories, relaxing and fun. Love the acting, so much better than a plain narration. Tom Baker is as wonderful as ever and Susan Jameson is very versatile. Tom Delievers again
I had some initial reservations regarding how this audioplay was going to pan out. I have listened to numerous Tom Baker Doctor Who stories on Big Finish, but this was the BBC, and they kind of do things differently. The BBC have all the experience because they created the show back in the 1960's and so they understand how to pace episodes. A story can pay multiple episodes unlike today, where stories are told in just 1 or 2 episodes. However this is a very big arc, and the acting is second to non given its just an audioplay. Tom Baker truly brings his old Doctor out into the public like he never stopped playing the character. These kind of audioplays can really be a big hit or a massive miss, if they don't deliver in the first couple of minutes. From the off, the adventure starts, and it instantly draws you in. Tom's voice acting is second to non, the way he speaks, the way his intonations are, everything about his voice draws you in. The 3 story arcs are well written, and easily flow one into the other. It could get easy to be bored after a couple of episodes, but each episode is almost a like a cliff hanger in itself. Each chapter begins a new story within the overall arc of the Nest Chronicles. Which if it was just one big monotonous monologue would get very confusing very quickly and it would be easy to loose one's place within the story. The BBC out did themselves with this nest trilogy. Every story is exceptionally well written, well voiced acted and an absolute please to listen to. I have decided not to talk about any of the chapter stories or the overall arc because it would unfair to those who have never heard it before. A spoiler in this case would be a bad idea. Just know if you grew up with Tom as your Doctor in the 70's your really not going to be disappointed with this offering. as i said everything flows easily from one nest story to the next. exceptional story telling.

The fourth Doctor rises
I purchased this as I was looking for a lengthy audiobook and although I had not heard of this story was interested because it featured my Doctor growing up and was read by Tom Baker! Imagine my delight when I listened that it was quite simply fantastic and my regret when it finished. Got to mundane stuff but as I've come to appreciate the chapters are named so you can easily navigate and return to parts that you want. it is frustrating that I have great difficulty finding the story that I want in other Doctor Who audio books and some others that I have because the chapters are not named. The stories are fantastic and not wanting to give anything away I will just leave it at that. I'm not going to give a synopsis as that may ruin the enjoyment but take it from me, the story and especially the performances are first rate. If you want to see why Tom Baker is remembered as well one of the great Who's listen no further.. All the rest of the cast are fantastic, this is an audio drama so it has audio effects which enhance the story even more. This is easily my favourite of my Doctor Who collections so far. Enjoy, I'm going to start all over again now myself
