Publisher's Summary

1.1 Technophobia by Matt Fitton

When the Doctor and Donna visit London's Technology Museum for a glimpse into the future, things don't go to plan. The most brilliant IT brain in the country can't use her computer. More worrying, the exhibits are attacking the visitors, while outside, people seem to be losing control of the technology that runs their lives. Is it all down to simple human stupidity, or is something more sinister going on?

Beneath the streets, the Koggnossenti are waiting. For all of London to fall prey to technophobia....

1.2 Time Reaver by Jenny T Colgan

Calibris. The spaceport planet where anything goes. Where anyone who doesn't want to be found can be lost, and where everything has its price. Where betentacled gangster Gully holds sway at the smugglers' tavern, Vagabond's Reach.

The alien Vacintians are trying to impose some order on the chaos. Soon the Doctor and Donna discover why. An illegal weapon is loose on the streets. A weapon that destroys lives... slowly and agonisingly.

The Time Reaver.

1.3 Death and the Queen by James Goss

Donna Noble has never been lucky in love. So when, one day, her Prince does come, she is thrilled to have the wedding of all weddings to look forward to. Though the Doctor isn't holding his breath for an invitation. And her future mother-in-law is certainly not amused. But on the big day itself, Donna finds her castle under siege from the darkest of forces, marching at the head of a skeleton army.

When it looks like even the Doctor can't save the day, what will Queen Donna do to save her people from Death itself?

Just like an episode of the television show

As a fan huge fan of Doctor Who (especially Ten), I can't believe that it has taken me so long to venture into these audio dramas. I was astounded by the production quality; it felt like having one of the television episodes in my ears. It was incredible.

This volume is number one out of two and features three stories, "Technophobia," The Time Reaver," and "Death and the Queen." Personally, "The Time Reaver" by Jenny Colgan was my favourite out of the tales; the plot was just brilliantly thrilling. However, the other two weren't bad.

Additionally, since the Big Finish used David Tennant and Catherine Tate, my longing to relieve the Doctor/Donna days was satisfied; they were always one of my favourite pairs.

Overall, I had a great time listening to The Tenth Doctor Adventures; I can't wait to check out more of Big Finish's audio selection. I would absolutely recommend this audio masterpiece to my fellow Whovians.

Edit: I feel that I should note that I originally bought this audiobook just so David Tennant could read to me at night, lol

Great listen for fans of the Doctor and Donna

Any additional comments?

This is audio drama with different actors voicing each character. There is no narration. If you haven't listened to any Big Finish stories before, or you are new to audio dramatization, it may be a bit difficult to follow. But trust me, it's worth it in the end. Hearing Tennant and Tate act together again was a treat. They have such a great dynamic.

There are three separate adventures here. The first is Technophobia. The Doctor and Donna are on Earth a few years into Donna's future when technology starts going haywire. The story has a very simplistic plot (psychic alien invasion 101), and I'm still not sure I understand the resolution. On the other hand, there's sparkling dialogue and the Doctor is in top form. There are bits of amusing satire of our tech-obsessed society sprinkled throughout.

Second, we have Time Reaver, my favourite of the three. The TARDIS team are traveling through the Vortex when the TARDIS malfunctions. They land on an intergalactic travel hub called Calibris in order to get some new fluid links. They find out the planet has become a police state because someone is distributing illegal weapons (outlawed throughout the known universe!) The premise is great, the plot is involved, and the characters are well-realized. The Doctor and Donna are especially true to their original characterization in this story. Marvelous humour as well. I hope you like heart-wrenching endings.

The last story is called Death and the Queen. After landing in the late 1700s, Donna meets a prince from a land that neither she nor the Doctor have ever heard of. Goritainia has supposedly had 500 years of peace, and the Doctor becomes suspicious. Donna, however, is enthralled and agrees to marry the prince. I'm not a fan. For one, Donna's characterization is irritating. She ignores the Doctor through 3/4 of the adventure simply because she sees him as a "gooseberry". Meanwhile, the Doctor wastes a lot of time whining about his companions leaving him. The plot and premise are extremely thin, and the villain sort of hand-wavy.

I expect many people will be rating this 5 stars by virtue of it being the first we've heard from Tennant and Tate in the TARDIS since 2008. I gave it 4 stars, overall. The stories are mostly good, but not good enough to warrant top marks, in my opinion.

One last thing. If you're going for any of the new Tenth Doctor and Donna audios from Big Finish, make sure you get this one! It's the best value, as it has all three stories in one package.

I wanted to love this......

What would have made Doctor Who - The 10th Doctor Adventures, Volume 1 better?

First let me say that I was very excited to listen to these stories as I am a big fan of The Doctor and Donna together. I love the Catherine Tate and David Tennant dynamic. I wanted to sit back and listen to this, imagining that I was watching another adventure of the pair but I just couldn't. I was not a fan of how it was edited. It sounds as if each actor recorded their lines separately, absent of each other, which is fine. How it was spliced together was a problem. There was no natural pause between speakers. As soon as someone stopped talking, another began. There was no spacing, no timing it out, no processing time. Everything just felt incredibly rushed.

Another issue I had was about the story. The voice acting was great, and I liked the concept of each story but since there was no narrator, there wasn't enough detail or exposition in what the actors were saying to fully understand or get a clear picture of what was happening. If more had been written in for the actors to say, giving more information about...anything, it would have been better.

I really wanted to like these stories. I'm going to have to pay more attention to the samples now.

Makes me miss 10 and Donna!

I loved listening to these quick little adventures with the 10th Doctor and Donna! These two are my favorite together - their chemistry, friendship, and excitement together was just some of the very best on the show, and they haven't lost that energy since leaving the show, either. Highly recommended to fans of these two and Doctor Who. Allons-y!

A must have for fans of the Tennant years

Doctor Who is a long-running sci-fi series by the BBC. Over the years, several actors (around 15) have played the main character of The Doctor. Everyone has their favorites; personally, I like the Second, Fourth, Sixth, and Eighth Doctors. Among the many actors to play the Doctor, David Tennant is one of the most popular in the fanbase. What The Tenth Doctor Adventures provides is effectively 3 brand new episodes of Season 4 Doctor Who (Doctor and Donna). The set is divided into the earthbound episode Techophobia, an adventure in outer space with Time Reaver, and a pseudo-historical with Death and the Queen. Its a good variety, and captures 3 common settings often found in the series. All three stories are full cast audio dramas, with the main draw being the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble respectively. The set encapsulates a lot of the twists, turns and general weirdness that Doctor Who has. As a fan, I really like the set. For those unfamiliar with the show or the Tennant Years in particular, its not the best place to start. I would personally suggest to see, at the very least, the episode "Runaway Bride" and the season 4 opener before starting this set if you are new to the series. Overall, the set is great for fans but not the best place to start for newcomers to the franchise.

I was fun to hear my favorite doctor and companion together again. The stories are light and easy. The production is just like the show and which makes up for it being so short, for the cost.

First 2 stories, ok. Last episode: GREAT!

Fun collection of adventures with my favorite doctor who duo! Just wished they didn’t whisper so much at times. Some loud sounds made it difficult to understand what they were saying. Other than that, good stuff.

ABSOLUTELY LIKE THE SHOW!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is some of the best doctor who content besides the show that you can get, it immediately gets right to the point and the moment that theme music starts.... you know for a fact you are in for the return to the 10th doctor era

What did you like best about this story?

I love how accurate it is to the show!

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

David Tennent's still has the doctor in him as he did back in his prime.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

all 3 stories have there own twist and turns but they all have that late 2000s charm and that always makes me smile!

Any additional comments?

PLEASE buy this collection and i promise you wont regret it! ALLONS-Y!!!!!

They left the best story last, ‘Death + the Queen'

Good to listen to David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprise their roles for some new 10th Doctor Who adventures. We’ve got three stories here - they get progressively better.

Seems everyone was finding their feet in the first episode, second story was okay, but ‘Death and the Queen’ by James Goss was tremendous fun. This was a great story/production, if only all three were to this standard it would’ve been 5*

Good as the TV original, better maybe

If you could sum up Doctor Who - The 10th Doctor Adventures, Volume 1 in three words, what would they be?

Fun, lively, listenable

What was one of the most memorable moments of Doctor Who - The 10th Doctor Adventures, Volume 1?

Death and the Queen

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Well, it's an audio drama, so it's more similar to television than a book reading. It has a great drive to the production and David Tennant and Catherine Tate really bring a lot of energy to the production.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It wasn't the most profound production, but it was a great knock around adventure with plenty of light comedy in it.

It's like they never left!

The 10th Doctor Adventures are a great 3 hours, David Tennant and Catherine Tate slip right back into character- it's like they never left! The stories sound just like the rest of series 4, they have the same upbeat feel and wittiness as before. I especially like Time Reaver, the idea behind it is quite fascinating and the villain is great. In my opinion, the final story, Death and the Queen, got slightly confusing towards the end, but the voice acting was still as stellar as the two before.

Tennant and Tate are absolutely great!

It was a joy to hear this sparkling partnership again, but at times the raucous sound effects and monster voices were so loud and distorted that I missed some of the content.
