Critic Reviews

"Though Galvin’s narration is concentrated on giving Tris the perfect voice, she never neglects the secondary characters. Poignant moments with Tris’s mother and Four, her leader and love, are subtly nuanced to let listeners hear the terror Tris often hides.... listeners will hold their breath waiting to see if she can survive the day." What made the experience of listening to Divergent the most enjoyable?

The story line is interesting and despite comparisons to The Hunger Games, I think that it is different and something I haven't heard before. You get to know the characters layer by layer so it's keeping me intrigued.

What other book might you compare Divergent to, and why?

It would have to be The Hunger Games as it's aimed at the same audience level so easy to listen to and captures my interest even though I'm in my late 30's. It also has a similar theme being that there are young people making choices because of the system of how the world works...

What about Emma Galvin’s performance did you like?

Love Emma's narration. Her voice sounds the right age of the main character who is narrating the book, but she also has subtle changes in her voice for other characters so you hear the change but it's not ridiculous.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

More intriguing than the hunger games!!

Any additional comments?

I only bought this book on Monday and it's now Thursday and I've only got an hour to go. I find myself driving around and around to hear more. It did help I had a 7 hour work trip through the week but I have just purchased the second book before even finishing this one. This is the first audiobook I've ever had and I love it.

Finished this book way quicker than any other book I've listened to. Every spare minute I had, I was listening lol. Had to watch the movie straight after, as well as get the next book in the series. Love this!

Wonderful storyline and I think Tris is the ultimate dystopian here. One of my guilty pleasures is to skip to the chapters with romance, but I managed to restrain myself this time and it was totally worth it! A thriller at every turn and took me on a journey through sleepless nights. At first, the narrators voice was a bit young for a 16 year old but as always, I got used to it. Unfortunately, the narrators voice was made the very silly mistake of miss-pronouncing ‘procedure’, (Yes I know!). But other than that a amazing choice and I’ll be coming back to listen to this a lot!

Great storyline, narrator not annoying or over dramatic, easy to lose yourself in. Highly recommend.

Sometimes a little too intense to listen to at bedtime. Good story and well narrated.

I really enjoyed the story and having it read by Emma really fits the main character well.

Emma does an excellent job with the narration, so enjoyable to listen to. The writing is descriptive and entertaining, and the story was pretty good. Gives a hunger games vibe, but not quite as good.

Great narrator

the book entales much more of the butterfly like romance between Triss and 4, loved the book and the reader really took the role of Triss nicely!

On to the second book!
