About this listen

Elizabeth and Jackson Shore married young, raised two daughters, and weathered the storms of youth as they built a future together. But after the children leave home, they quietly drift apart. When Jack accepts a wonderful new job offer, Elizabeth puts her needs aside to follow him across the country. Until the sudden death of her father changes everything. Grieving and alone, she retreats to an isolated beach house where she packs away the last remnants of her parents' lives. There, the pieces of a past she never knew unfold to reveal a tender story of lasting devotion, the kind of steadfast commitment that Elizabeth admits is missing from her own marriage. Faced with her own disillusionment, she makes a terrifying decision, risking everything she has for a second chance at happiness.©2002 Kristin Hannah (P)2004 Brilliance Audio, Inc. This novel lacked some of the substance of Kristin Hannah's other titles which I've listened to. It was quite repetitious. The rapid fire narration detracted from the story too. Was the audio sped up? Surely no one reads that quickly!

Average story spoilt by narration

I thoroughly enjoyed this beautifully written realistic portrayal of a couple who are at a crossroad in life when they become empty nesters. As happens in real life, life’s challenges all seem to come at once. While rising to meet these challenges head on as individuals who have lost their connection with each other, each realises what is ultimately most important and fundamental to their future happiness. The characters are beautifully drawn, complex, flawed and real. Wonderful performance by the reader as well. Highly recommend.

Beautiful portrait of a long term marriage and enduring love

Very light story line, naively told. A soppy love story. It was also read in an irritating ‘tough guy’ style manner. I love the author and had expected much more.

Disappointing, lacked engaging storytelling.

I love Kristen Hannah usually but this book was a like a Mills and Boon

Not much

The author did nothing to provoke thought. So lacklustre and benign. Just written to make a quick buck.

The very poor writing
