About this listen
Class-A Threat: The year is 2074. Alex is a 15-year-old student dreaming of a career as a space guide. He eats, sleeps, and breathes stars - but life has other plans. That's how Disgardium, a new online game, becomes his only means of reaching his goal.
Apostle of the Sleeping Gods: A Sleeping God gave you its power, but now demands absolute loyalty and obedience even in real life. Something called the Destroying Plague wants its Emissary to infect everyone alive and, as luck would have it, that Emissary is you!
The Destroying Plague: Scyth and his friends find themselves under the watchful eye of the preventers. But this is just one of many problems; the Sleeping God has another impossible quest for them. The old enemy Big Po thirsts for vengeance, and the Nucleus of the Destroying Plague prepares to take cruel revenge against the former Herald . . .
Resistance: The armies of the Commonwealth, the Empire, and the neutral factions, all the leading players and clans of the preventers, have been summoned under the banners of Nergal the Radiant to the sands of the deadly Lakharian Desert, to wage war against a most terrible enemy of all life itself-Scyth.

This is a translation of a Russian series, but if I hadn't already known I would have never guessed. The translation is absolutely perfect, and the story, while adult, lacks the usual Russian grim dark of these things. So just an FYI, you know, for people that might be worried about that.
The basic story revolves around a 15 year-old's adventures in a future where most of humanity source their entertainment and work prospects from a virtual reality game called Disgardium. Though he initially hates it, real life financial woes force him to start making effort in the game. He quickly gains a unique class and the story launches to the stratosphere from there.
One of the things I loved about this story was the mix of real and virtual world storylines. Usually I hate this sort of thing because the real world is just an add-on, but here the two mix perfectly, with actions in either having consequences in the other. The mix is probably maybe 85% game and 15% real world. It's done really well, and adds to the story instead of detracting from it.
The worldbuilding and magic systems are all very standard fantasy concepts. Dragons, monsters, magic, swords and sorcery, that sort of thing. The book has a novel twist in the form of its 'Threat' system which gives select players unique powers, at the cost of the rest of humanity hunting them for mega cash rewards. The cat and mouse element this added to the books really upped the tension, especially when it spilled over into real life.
For me, most of the negatives came in books one and two and revolved squarely around the youth of the MC, who is 15. There's some body shaming themes which, though it might accurately reflect the mindset of an immature teenager, still didn't sit well with me. Basically the MC (and other characters) are jerks to his overweight best friend. Though the issue is eventually resolved, it's dealt with in a one paragraph apology and that's pretty much it. The MC is never once being held accountable for his actions, meaning it just never felt right within the story. I would have preferred other areas for the main character to experience character growth in.
Speaking of character growth, secondary characters are really well done. Many of them are complex, and occasional side chapters really flesh them out. Romance is a bit less well done. Women seem to fall for the MC with alarming abandon, and I often found myself groaning at the paper thin explanations written in to justify it.
Still, all in all, despite its faults, this was a really, really fun read. The negatives don't take up too much space in the book, and the action was FUN! Stats are just the perfect level for audiobooks - not too heavy, not too light - and narration was great. This is a very strong LitRPG read. It has it's faults but I still couldn't put the book down. I can 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a good litRPG listen - especially those who have read widely in genre already.
