Publisher's Summary
The complete BBC Radio collection bringing together two full-cast dramatisations of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently novels.
In Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency Dirk Gently has an unshakable belief in the interconnectedness of all things, but his Holistic Detective Agency mainly succeeds in tracking down missing cats for old ladies. Then Dirk stumbles upon an old friend behaving bizarrely - and he's drawn into a four-billion-year-old mystery that must be solved if the human race is to avoid immediate extinction.
In The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul Harry Enfield exuberantly returns as Dirk Gently, who, fallen on hard times and dressed as a gypsy woman, is using his irritatingly accurate clairvoyant powers to read palms. He is saved when a frantic client turns up with a ludicrous story about being stalked by a goblin waving a contract accompanied by a hairy, green-eyed, scythe-wielding monster. When Detective Superintendent Gilks decides a headless body found in a sealed room is the result of a particularly irritating suicide, Dirk is plunged into a mystery where the interconnectedness of all things is tested to the limit.
Starring Harry Enfield as Dirk Gently along with Billy Boyd, Olivia Coleman, Andrew Sachs and Jim Carter. Guest stars include Peter Davison (Doctor Who), Jan Ravens (Dead Ringers), Philip Jackson (Poirot), John Fortune (Bremner, Bird & Fortune), Morwenna Banks (Absolutely) and Stephen Moore (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).
For the best listening experience, make sure to download in high quality.

Instant regret over this purchase
I dunno wtf is wrong with people, why they can't just pay someone to read this book from start to finish instead of abridging it or turning it into a radio show or a g*dd*mn musical. I'm salty because I finally let my yearning for that wonderful book override my reservations over this terrible idea of a product and buy it. It's just as bad as I feared; it's the difference between watching your favorite TV show and hearing someone describe it over a bad phone connection. The main problem is narration - there isn't any, because that might have made this bearable; instead, you're either left guessing what the hell is going on, or characters will awkwardly describe things in dialog. I dunno why anyone thought this was a good idea, and I dunno why I let myself buy it when I KNEW it was a crap idea from the sample. Don't just avoid this one; contact Audible and demand the ORIGINAL text with no bloody "adaptations" or "abridging" or any other yogurt-brained attempts to improve on what was already a masterwork of fiction. *expletive*! The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul gets a regular audiobook, so why not this one, guys? Why not this one? Eat it, whoever's responsible *violently rude gesture*

A delightful story marred by bad digital audio
The story is great, the cast do a superb job of bringing all sorts of life to the strange characters and situations you expect from Douglas Adams. However, the whole thing is made difficult to listen to because of bad digital artifacts in the audio compression. This title really needs to be remastered.

Excellent Radio play.
Great radio play lovingly produced and a true homage to the original Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy Radio show. If you are a purist and find any deviation from the text to be an affront then its probably not for you but I loved it and found the updates harmonic. Great performances, fun wacky story, good, clean fun. my only bugbear is I wish you had the option to play it through as one program rather then with credits every hour or so but then this is easily skipped through and where else can you hear an Oscar winning actress playing a vending machine.
