Stephen Crawford is trying to finish his PhD dissertation when he's transported to a magical land he's previously only experienced through gaming. With a strange new capability that causes him to capture (and remove from existence) places, things, and people, he's trying to make sense of his situation and make his way back to Earth.

I enjoyed this immensely. The card-learning mechanics are very clever and demonstrate the author's wry sense of humour.

Writing quality is good for KU, but could do with a professional editing pass. I heard many dangling participles and modifiers, a couple of singular-plural mismatches, and some pronoun issues. Dialogue is good. There are a few inconsistencies, but nothing plot breaking.

Audiobook narration is good, with the English narrator mostly using a variety of regional accents from the U.K., but his American accents are appalling! The FBI agents were particularly painful. Early on there were also a couple of strange incorrect plural apostrophe pronunciations, where the narrator added an extra syllable, like "students's" instead of "students' ". I'm not sure if this was a weird pronunciation quirk or if they were actually printed that way in the book. Production quality is excellent.

Original and entertaining, and very clever
