Bei einem ihrer regelmäßigen Treffen eröffnet der "Zeitreisende" seinen erstaunten Gästen, dass er eine Maschine erfunden habe, mit der er durch die Zeit reisen könne.
Zur Demonstration schickt er ein Modell der Maschine schon mal voraus es verschwindet vor den Augen der verblüfften Besucher, von denen nicht wenige lediglich an einen billigen Zaubertrick glauben.
Beim nächsten Treffen, eine Woche später, erscheint der "Zeitreisende" verspätet und wirkt sichtlich mitgenommen. Am Kamin berichtet er von seinen unglaublichen, fantastischen Abenteuern aus der Zukunft der Menschheit...
