Verkleidet als Falknerjunge wird die sizilianische Adlige Agnes, welche im Besitz der Pilgermuschel ist und deswegen von den Verschwörern erpresst wird, an Friedrichs Hof geschmuggelt. Dort trifft sie auf die Hofdame Johanna und die Kölner Kaufmannstochter Mechthild, die es schaffen hinter ihr Geheimnis zu kommen. Sie versuchen der jungen Adligen zu helfen, doch dabei kommt Agnes' große Liebe und sogar ihr Leben in eine gefährliche Lage.
