 Der Roman "Die Kapuzinergruf" ist die Fortsetzung von "Radetzkymarsch": Franz Ferdinand Trotta lebt als reicher Mann in Wien. Nach Ausbruch des "Ersten Weltkriegs" lässt er sich in das Regiment nach "Ostgalizien" versetzen, wo sein Vetter und ein jüdischer Freund dient. Nach Kriegsgefangenschaft und Flucht kehrt Trotta nach Wien zu seiner Mutter und Ehefrau zurück. Er wird häuslich und kümmert sich um seinen Sohn. Das "Dritte Reich" nimmt langsam Einzug in Wien. Trotta weiß nicht wohin und möchte zum Kaiser in die Kapuzinergruft. Dies bleibt ihm aber verwehrt.

Walter Kohut (1927-1980) war ein österreichischer Schauspieler und in zweiter Ehe mit Immy Schell, der Schwester von Maria und Maximilien Schell, verheiratet.
