Als "Die Blendung" 1935 erstmals erschien, waren es Thomas Mann und Robert Musil, die einen Lobgesang auf Canettis Roman anstimmten. Trotzdem sollten noch viele Jahre vergehen, ehe Canettis Werk auch international gewürdigt wurde. 1981 erhielt der Autor den Literaturnobelpreis für sein schriftstellerisches Werk - mit großem Einfühlungsvermögen gelesen von Matthias Ponnier.
