Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Parker S. Huntington comes an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance full of revenge and a dash of fate.

"She could enjoy her pretty, perfect world a little longer. Soon enough, everything she owned would be mine."

I had a plan to escape the friend zone. Step one: sneak into Reed’s room. Step two: sleep with him.

But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw. These were dark, angry, and full of demons. And they belonged to Reed’s much-older brother.

Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son. I’m no longer the town’s prized princess. At 22, I’m broke, in need of a job. At 32, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge. Who cares if my family ruined his? Who cares if he looks at me with pure loathing? Who cares if every task he assigns me is designed to torture? I need the money. Simple as that. I’ll suffer his cruelty in silence, knowing there’s one thing he wants more than revenge. Me.

Please note: This is a full-length stand-alone novel in the Cruel Crown world.

ENTHRALLING

I loved how she had special words for certain situations. Gosh she made me wanna look up at sky. It made her journey beautiful, I thought. Found it very hilarious but three quarters through, I started laughing a bit more. Love her chat with the ceiling the most, but don't call me the crazy one. When I read a good book and like the story line, it's a compliment to the author. I love reading so I can learn words I've never heard of before and this book was amazing for that.

Fallen for Nash and Emery

This was an enjoyable story. Dragged in parts but full of humour, drama and love. You can't help but fall in love with Nash and Emery's story. A clear example of how love happens in it's own time. Nearly 16 hours long but worth listening to.

Enjoyable light stuff

Always enjoy Sebastian York narrating .. spot on as the male character .. but the female narrator was annoying and could only listen in small doses or even skip her .. took away from the experience. The story was good but predictable and OTT.

Enemies-to-lovers and slow-burn romance!

This story is the first book in the Cruel Crown Series. OMG! 145,000 words/15 hrs and 46 mins, and no dull moment. This is an enemies-to-lovers, and slow-burn romance, very well written. The story is hilarious, sweet, emotional, sexy, captivating, intriguing, and beautiful. Some scenes are absolutely hilarious! The characters are wonderful. Nash is a handsome, sexy alpha man, seeking for revenge. Emery is an absolutely beautiful woman, selfless, feisty, strong, and independent. I love how their relationship evolves, after some twists and turns. The ending is beautiful. I loved seeing again Asher and Lucy from Asher Black. Desireé Ketchum and Sebastian York did a wonderful job with the narration. I love their voices together. Sebastien York is perfect as Nash. Desireé Ketchum is definitively one of my favorite narrators. I love her voice! She is perfect as Emery. Parker S. Huntington is an amazing author. Her writing is genius, and refreshing. She never disappoints. Never. Looking forward to read more books from her! If you haven't read this story or the Five Syndicates Series, give you a favor and do it! Just do it! You won't regret it.

Too long

The narrators made the story tolerable, excellent job by both. I could listen to Sebastian York non-stop. Although well written, I found the story too “Wordy” if that makes sense. The author explains every little detail of every emotion of every thought to describe the mood, but enough already, there’s no reason why this story should’ve been 15 hours long! I know a descriptive author makes for a good read/listen, so most of you might disagree with me. All due respect to the author, in the end, I would spend another credit to read their work

Magic of Her Words

Devious Lies by Parker S. Huntington is a magical listen with the vibrant imagery, unusual words, and incredible characters. I so loved Emery and Nash in this book. They had immense chemistry, great banter and surprising secrets. I was pulled into this book from the first minute. I loved the unexpected humor the author injected in the story naming one of her friends at the root. Sebastian York and Desiree' Ketchum were perfectly cast for this audiobook. I could definitely sense the age difference in characters, which only added to the book. Both narrators are spectacular, and together they are even better. Thank you Parker for including cameo appearances by some of my favorite other characters in this book too! That was an unexpected treat. The twists are unexpected and so well done. I loved this book!

My Spoiler-Free Review

Writing Style: Dual POVs

Ratings:

Story- 3 stars!
I love stories with flashbacks or that cover a long history in the characters' journeys both separately and / or together, but I found the time changes a little harder to follow than normal. Fortunately, this one didn't turn into a silly love triangle as I feared it might. It was a misguided revenge turned into love story done well. The secret app texting relationship was probably my favorite aspect of this story.

Performance ratings for Sebastian York (aka Nash Prescott) & Desireé Ketchum (aka Emery Winthrop) - 5 stars each!
These two narrators made a nice narrating duo.

Overall - 4 stars!
I think the story would have been even better if there had been more of Nash's POV in the earlier chapters to move the story along faster. Although it had a slow start for me, it was a good story overall with great audio performances by both narrators.

Emery & Nash

I have been waiting to meet Nash Prescott and the it was totally worth the wait. This book, the first in the Cruel Crown series is so good, it will keep up to finish the listen! This enemies to lovers story is not your typical listen. It's fresh, original and oh, so sexy. Emery is down and out after her father's reputation is tarnished. Now believing her trust fund is tainted, she is set on making it on her own, It's not easy, so taking a job with her best friend's brother is a last resort. When Nash realizes the daughter of the man who ruined his family's life is now working for him, the one that accidentally landed in his bed 4 years earlier, he is determined to make her life miserable. But what these two don't know is how their journey will go. Huntington is a master at suspense, intrigue and romance. There are twists and turns in this that are surprising and so well written, I just could not stop listening. Smart and sexy is how I would best describe it and some humor to lighten the mood at times that will make you spit out your drink! I am hooked again, and can't wait for more.

Sebastian York and Desireé Ketchum are cast so well, you would think they actually are Nash and Em. York has that edge to his voice for this darker, alpha, full of venom when necessary and can turn the charm on in the next breath. Ketchum feels the essence of Emery, with her need to be separated from her family and find her independence. She has attitude and fiery passion flowing through her voice. This is an amazing team and makes this an amazing listen.

My heart kept pounding

There are no truer words than the magic ones that emery silently put out the universe, this book shows growth and hell of a lot of twists - its full, of lust, gluttony, greed, anger, violence, fraud, treachery. I loved every single word.

Excellent

This book was just excellent. I loved every minute of it. It was almost 16 hours but I hardly noticed. Nash is a dream once he gets over himself. I didn't really like Reed all that much and didn't really think he was all that good of a friend to Emery. He always let his girlfriend cut her down and didn't really seem to care what she had going on in her life. That is really the only complaint I had about this book. Was one of the best books I've read in 2019,

Pretentious and long winded.

I will never read another book by this author, they seem to have an obsession with trying to prove how intelligent they are. This book feels almost condescending, like oh look I know so many words you most likely don’t let me keep throwing them in your face until you want to run head first into a brick wall. The author was just trying too hard

This book is about 5 hours too long, there are chapters and chapters that should have been edited out. They were unnecessary and added nothing to the book. The main characters were frustrating. Emery just pissed me off with her stupid stubborn behaviour, but I didn’t hate her. What I did hate though was Nash acting like a complete di**head towards her without any real evidence that’s she deserved to be treated badly. I hate that his actions were basically forgiven, all because he started to feed her. Like are you serious?

I’m all for slow burners but this felt like it was moving at a snail pace, I had to listen to a lot of it at 1.25x speed just so I wouldn’t throw a fit.

If I never have to hear the word Sisyphus again it will be too soon. This is just an unremarkable book trying too hard.

Consuming, all-the-feels, addictive... 5 STARS

Holy freaking **** !! I just finished Devious Lies by Parker S Huntington- a new to me author. Her writing is PHENOMENAL and evokes so much emotions and thought... I don’t want it to end!! I rarely listen to an audiobook unless I’ve read the book. But this is soooo good- I want to read it all over again and highlight ALL THE WORDS!! It is addictive and unputdownable. I devoured it- as much as it consumed me, gripped me, owned me.
Nash and Emery are EVERYTHING!! Their chemistry is so electric. Wow, Just WOW!!!
The Narrators- Sebastian York as Nash and Desireé Ketchum as Emery- couldn’t be more perfect for this audiobook.

What a load of rubbish!

First of all the female narration is awful. Second of all boring does not begin to describe it, I got through the first three hours and gave up! At hour number three it became pure audio porn! This story is about as exciting as a wet match and as effective. How this book got five stars is totally beyond me.

Sublime

Wow.

I don't know where to start, and I know I can't do this story justice in my review, but this is one very special novel. It is FANTASTIC. This is a gem of a tale. It's big, it's gutsy, it's an amazingly well crafted enemies-to-lovers story.

I have read the Anti-Fling by Ms Huntington (a very short story) about these two amazing people: Emery and Nash, and I knew in my bones that their story deserved a full novel. This story exceeded any expectations I had by a country mile! The characters are so well drawn and believable. They are flawed and quirky, struggling, angry and proud. The themes of penance, revenge, forgiveness and truth run throughout, and these two characters have an undeniable chemistry and sense of fate.

I have to commend the authors craft. Her words. The unusual, obscure words. I think she really must have put her heart and soul, and her whole everything into this story. It is absolutely amazing.

I do need to mention the two narrators who really added to this story. They brought the whole story to life.

Story unbelievable

Plot is unbelievable. It’s too far fetched & silly.

The main character’s obsession over words reeks of the author attempting to be smart but it’s just annoying.

It’s hard to follow what is thoughts or internal dialogue and what is speech. I hated the male narrator’s female voice.

Good characters, no surprises but still enjoyable

This book didn't rock my world but like an old favourite cosy jumper, I knew what to expect and it's an oldie but goodie. Emery and Nash have a love hate relationship.. mainly hate, they eventually fall for each other due to being thrown together at the right place and time. There's a few sub plots along the way to make their path to love turbulent (it would be a very short book if the HEA was plain sailing) . Emery is quirky, awkward, feisty and has a fixation with rare words everyday people wouldn't know let alone use (e.g the word yoborneh Arabic for 'you bury me'.. sounds chilling but means I can't live without you so hope I die first.. creepy but endearing i guess)! Nash is the bad boy turned rich, but still cynical with life due to circumstances in his past which he is determined to understand. His character is very witty and their bickering soon turns to banter.

Ultimately I enjoyed the journey, it was well written and although there were no surprises, just like a favourite old jumper I was left feeling warm and fuzzy.
