Zugleich wollen sie auch nach der verschollenen Familie ihres im deutschen Exil lebenden chinesischen Freundes Ye-kin-li forschen. Unterwegs stoßen noch der alte Seebär Kapitän Turnerstick und der wunderliche Holländer Willem van Ardappelen-bosch zu der bunten Truppe, die auf ihrer Reise prompt von einem – mal gefährlichen, mal aberwitzig komischen – Abenteuer in das nächste gerät.
