Der elternlose Choma Brut bekommt einen Sonderauftrag - er soll bei der verstorbenen Tochter eines Gutsbesitzers eine dreitägige Gebetszeremonie durchführen. Im Prinzip kein Problem für den abergläubischen und gottesfürchtigen Philosophen, aber wenn erst mal Tote auferstehen, Särge durch Kirchen fliegen und der Wij - ein grauenerregender Gnomen-Fürst - einem ins Angesicht blickt sieht die Sache schon etwas anders aus. Eine humoristische Erzählung aus einem Land, in welchem Hexen, Gnome, Teufel, Gott etc. nebeneinander existieren.
