Im Januar des Jahres 1569 kommt es auf der irischen Insel Inishkeere zu einigen dramatischen Ereignissen. Als eines Tages der Hexenjäger Jonathan Thuerloen in dem kleinen Dorf ankommt, beauftragen ihn die ängstlichen Menschen, dem Treiben der verhassten Druidin ein Ende zu bereiten. Noch am selben Abend suchen Thuerloen und sein Begleiter Knickery die heruntergekommene Steinhütte der angeblichen Hexe auf und malträtieren sie mit dem Hexenstecher.
