Summary

 Stevensons (1850-1894) Meistererzählung spielt auf Samoa. Der Matrose Keawe erwirbt eine Flasche, die von einem teuflischen Dämon bewohnt wird. Dieser erfüllt dem jeweiligen Besitzer der Flasche jeden Wunsch. Einzige Bedingung: Derjenige fällt der Hölle anheim, der zur Zeit seines Todes die Flasche sein eigen nennt.

Die Flasche darf verkauft werden, ihr Verkaufspreis muß allerdings jeweils niedriger sein als der Kaufpreis. Wie Stevensons "Dr. Jekyll und Mr. Hyde" handelt auch diese Erzählung von der Faszination des Bösen.
