Der englische Meisterdetektiv bezweifelt, dass Benetti wirklich einem Unfall zum Opfer gefallen ist, zumal der Maler ein Verhältnis mit Lady Epperstone hatte, der Witwe von Sir Epperstone, dem Auftraggeber des ominösen Gruppenbilds.
