About this listen

The bestselling author of Daemon returns with a near-future technological thriller, in which a charismatic billionaire recruits a team of adventurers to launch the first deep space mining operation--a mission that could alter the trajectory of human civilization.

When itinerant cave diver James Tighe receives an invitation to billionaire Nathan Joyce's private island, he thinks it must be a mistake. But Tighe's unique skill set makes him a prime candidate for Joyce's high-risk venture to mine a near-earth asteroid--with the goal of kick-starting an entire off-world economy. The potential rewards and personal risks are staggering, but the competition is fierce and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Isolated and pushed beyond their breaking points, Tighe and his fellow twenty-first century adventurers--ex-soldiers, former astronauts, BASE jumpers, and mountain climbers--must rely on each other to survive not only the dangers of a multi-year expedition but the harsh realities of business in space. They're determined to transform humanity from an Earth-bound species to a space-faring one--or die trying.

I really enjoyed the core idea here. A near-future asteroid mining mission driven by billionaire ambition feels very plausible. The engineering and problem-solving elements are engaging, and once the mission begins, about halfway through, it becomes a genuine page-turner.

That said, the pacing felt off. The first half is heavily focused on setup, which dragged more than it built tension. Then the second half moves quickly, compressing what is the most interesting part of the story.

Some of the big moments lacked impact because of the compressed timeline, and there were a few logical gaps that pulled me out of the story. For a premise grounded in realism, I wanted more follow-through.

Overall, Delta-V a solid techno-thriller with a great concept – very entertaining, and kept me engaged, but it didn’t quite reach the level of execution I was hoping for.

Great concept but uneven execution

Very good plausible story! As hoped all technologies based on real physics and inventions. Couldn't stop listening.

Love a science based thriller!

I've really liked Dan's books in the past, but honestly found this one disappointing, needed more guts

it was ok

Best read since “the Martian” by Andy weir ... well paced and plausible ... really enjoyed the inventiveness of seemingly insurmountable problems. Going to miss the team now I’ve finished the book. I really felt part of it. Well done!!!

Fantastic

The entire performance of this book is great, we read and gets you in to the story entirely that you need to listen in big chunks to get engrossed. BINGE THIS BOOK.
it's a great story about things that are so close to happening in real life. Just like Daniel's other books things are changing so quickly.

Great performance, listen to it in big chunks
