Story
Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race is trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible - assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

Story
When a planet-destroying Delver suddenly appears in the sky of Detritus and vanishes just as suddenly, FM knows that the last free human society got lucky. Her Skyward Flight companion Spensa figured out how to draw this Delver away, but it won't be so easy next time. The forces of the Galactic Superiority will be back - and if the Defiant Defense Force can't figure out a way to escape the planet, humanity's destruction is only a matter of time.

Men took root on Roshar, the world of storms, but the Voidbringers followed. The Almighty gave men powerful suits of armor and mystical weapons, the Shardblades. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Brandon Sanderson is one of the most significant fantasists to enter the field in a good many years. His ambitious, multi-volume epics and his stellar continuation of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series have earned both critical acclaim and a substantial popular following. In Legion, a distinctly contemporary novella filled with suspense, humor, and an endless flow of invention, Sanderson reveals a startling new facet of his singular narrative talent.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Publisher's Summary
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes the final book in an epic series about a girl who will travel beyond the stars to save the world she loves from destruction.
Spensa made it out of the Nowhere, but what she saw in the space between the stars has changed her forever. She came face to face with the Delvers, and finally got answers to the questions she's had about her own strange Cytonic gifts.
The Superiority didn't stop in it's fight for galactic dominance while she was gone, though. Spensa's team, Skyward Flight, was able to hold Winzik off, and even collect allies to help with the cause, but it's only a matter of time until humanity - and the rest of the galaxy - falls.
Defeating them will require all the knowledge Spensa gathered while in the Nowhere. But being Cytonic is more complicated than she ever could have imagined. Now, Spensa must ask herself: how far is she willing to go for victory, if it means losing herself - and her friends - in the process.
The final book in the Skyward series will free humanity, or see it fall forever.

Grande finale for an amazing series
Everything was wrapped up perfectly - like a good story ending, there is an opening for more, but not too far open to make it feel open-ended
I loved the interactions, the thought behind every character and the humanization of good and bad characters.
The story is unique and touching, I’m eager to listen more - and would definitely recommend-listen to it all.
Thank you for an amazing series!
P.S.
I love Sophie’s narration and love to listen to the main series with her voice.

Good end........Or beginning?
I've been waiting for this last book in the series to drop into my audio ibrary. I was excited and eager to listen to it.
Read by Sophie Aldred (a great choice) Spenca's latest escapades come to life. How can she overcome the Delvers and all the rest of the enemy, save her friends and herself. I enjoyed the book, am glad that the ending wasn't really an ending, and am heartened to know that more books set in this world and with these characters will come on due course.
I'm by no means YA audience, but still enjoyed it.

OMG what happened to Brandon Sanderson?
Defiant is an AWFUL book with, a simplistic story just about fit for an undemanding 11year old reader.
I love Brandon Sanderson, or so I would have readily volunteered if asked about his works in the past, that is until his most recent "fillers", the universe he previously painted was full of mystery and promise, these books do not in any way reflect the emotional engagement the many previous books in this universe. I have many bug bares about this book, but I think my most disliked aspect is, "stupid" heroes, I got so angry 2/3rds of the way into the book and I deleted it, out of sheer frustration with what are supposed to be the main protagonists. If you are writing about a character that exhibits average intelligence and make stupid and predictable mistakes within the storyline it is quite understandable. Still, when your main subjects are written to be too stupid to anticipate even the most obvious contrived plot device, I simply cannot bring myself to waste any more of my time. What happened Brandon, whats going on, is this you just getting paid, are you just writing for the money? I can at least, kinda, understand the commercial imperative, but abandoning your loyal followers? You have sadly lost this fan/reader, over the last two books, Defiant being amongst the lowest bubble gum sci-fi I have had the pleasure to delete from my devices.

Good but glad the series has ended
The first was soo good it was always going to be hard to keep the quality and story up. I would say this is the weakest of the series and it is probably time the series ended (maybe even a book less). I liked the epilogue to wrap things up.

Boring end to the series
After the Alcatraz series ending on a meh , this is another disappointment. This book is boring and I almost asked for a refund for my credit. The heroine turns into this whiny person for some time , and except for the action sequence at the end , nothing much happens. 🥱

Wasn't sold at first but got me in the end
Tbh the skyward books on their own tell an incomplete story. But with the Skyward flight books and this as a final Sanderson has only gone and pulled it together. So many great moments in this book it's impossible to say what the best was.

A good YA series
This book ended the first arc of the skyward series well. It’s clear by the ending that there’s still so much yet to come. These characters are far from finished and I’m excited to see where the series goes from here. Like many I do agree because it’s only an ending, it lost the gravity it needed to finish strong. I didn’t feel as strongly as I usually do at the end of a Sanderson book or series, but I still had a good time and will be happy to read the next one.

It’s a YA series, but still fun
It’s a YA series but as long as you know that going into it, you can still enjoy it for what it is. I’ve read everything Sanderson has written and while I prefer the titles for more season adults, I took on this series as a little diversion. No regrets in reading it it’s still fun.

I found this series a little juvenile especially compared to sandersons other works very cringe inducing more for very young teens or tweens I love sanderson as a writer but this series isn't for his usual fans this seems a series created to apply to a new modern audience
