About this listen

A competitive diver and an ace swimmer jump into forbidden waters in this steamy college romance from the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis.

Scarlett Vandermeer is swimming upstream. A junior at Stanford and a student athlete who specializes in platform diving, Scarlett prefers to keep her head down, concentrating on getting into med school and on recovering from the injury that almost ended her career. She has no time for relationships - at least, that's what she tells herself.

Swim captain, world champion, all-around aquatics golden boy Lukas Blomqvist thrives on discipline. It's how he wins gold medals and breaks records: complete focus with every stroke. On the surface, Lukas and Scarlett have nothing in common. Until a well-guarded secret slips out, and everything changes.

So they start an arrangement. And as the pressure leading to the Olympics heats up, so does their relationship. It was supposed to be just a temporary, mutually satisfying fling. But when staying away from Lukas becomes impossible, Scarlett realizes that her heart might be treading into dangerous water...

Editorial Review

I dove headfirst into this listen
After that headline I will try to keep my water puns to a minimum, but let me just say that someone may need to douse you with ice water after listening to Ali Hazelwood’s latest. Deep End has all the brainy chemistry (physical and otherwise) I’ve come to love and expect from Hazelwood’s novels ... with a healthy dose of BDSM tossed in. Stanford diving star Scarlett Vandermeer has been laser-focused on coming back from a season-ending injury and getting herself into med school. Romance, relationships, even friendships don’t really factor into that equation. Swim captain and world champion Lukas Blomqvist is similarly focused, until a secret thrusts Lukas and Scarlett together, and their mutual attraction bubbles to the surface (sorry, last one). Performed by Thérèse Plummer with Ben Holtzmuller, Deep End is filled with STEMinist energy, a few Easter eggs for longtime fans and enough steam to quench your thirst[traps] this Valentine’s season. —Katie O., Audible Editor

First book by author. I enjoyed it, very well written and narrated. Would have loved dual pov.

The only minor feedback is the Lukas’ voice was too quiet so I had to have the volume up higher than I normally would like.

Great story and loved the narrators

Another winner from Ali, but I particularly appreciated the duet- so nice to hear the male characters in a male tone.

Loved the duet

You know it’s good when you read it. Then listen to it. Then listen again. And AGAIN. Therese Plummer should always narrate Ali’s books, she MAKES this audiobook. If you haven’t, go listen to Bride.

Ali did it again!

Amazing story, so much squealy tension, and the most deliciously frustrating main characters. Great narration also.

Ali. Baby. Honey. Sweet Angel. Are you kidding me. LIKE BE SO FOR REAL RIGHT NOW. Who gave you the audacity to go out and transform my brain from “sports are disenfranchising for couches” to HEAVILY invested in Olympic pool sports. I swear to god I did not need another hyper-fixation. I wasn’t in the budget. But here we are and I’m shaved, stripper pole waxed and READY TO GET WHET BB. I feel hot. I feel sweaty. Things are moist and it’s not distressing.

And yeah! I CRIED. WHAT OF IT. IM JUST A GIRL. I loved every bit of this story. I want to negotiate my own list. I want to learn Swedish. I want to go hiking. I want to inward dive. I want to write formulas on his hand which he keeps for good luck.

This book was scrumptious. I was fed. I was on the journey. I was with Scarlett every second and then to be seen. Like SEEN (capitals intentional) like that. That old chestnut “to be loved is to be known”. I AM IN FACT NOW A PUDDLE.

I am so happy for the amount of little deaths she had and I just know he had a hydrate on standby because my guy knows after care and is not remotely phased by the blubbering messy collective that we are.

SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE

Absolutely love this book; voice actors, drama, spice! Definitely don't listen to it while you're at work.

A must listen!
