When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

Publisher's Summary
It's been three long years since Deadbreak. That's what everyone's calling it - the day the dead rose. Every day since then, Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are).
It's a new world out there, and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu. If he's going to have a chance, he'll need his wits, a little bit of luck, and lots of ammo.

the best of zombie genre without dumb Carl
the story reminds me of when I first started reading the walking dead but this is a lot better because it has a story arc and trajectory that intrigues the reader from beginning till the end and has some good comedy bits.

One of the better books
Written very well. But be forewarned, there’s little break in the action. It’s a book that reads life like. People talking as they would, scenes unfolding without super powers...etc. Enjoyed it immensely. And it wraps up in one book. Although I would like to read another Jeremiah tale again.

YES. AUTHOR AND NARRATOR WINNING COMBO
it's been awhile since I've done a review but I felt I had to.This audiobook was fantastic. the author did an absolutely amazing job writing the dialogue for the main character, and the narrator brought it to life. it's so seamless you dont dont realize for awhile that the main character is.... interesting you will have to read it. This is the diamond in the rough I've been looking for. my only con is there's no 2nd book :(
perfect balance of smart ass humor and zombie apocalypse.

A nice twist on an old tale.
Truly just a story of a regular guy with flaws and issues trying his best. I enjoyed that there was no contrived drama or situations created to give an example of the characters heroism. The story is well balanced with just enough humor to make you laugh when you need it. and the relationship of a man and his best friend was well played.

I loved this book
I loved the characters, the dark humor, the storyline, and of course the genre.
I admire any writer that can mix humor and macabre storylines, and not be corny or cheesy. The narrator whom is a favorite was as always on point.

An entertaining story....
The story was entertaining and funny at times but the action was a little over the top and unbelievable. The narrator really pulled it all together. I wish he did more of the zombie apocalypse type books. His performance was right up there with R.C. Bray, Ray Porter and Sean Runnette. I even purchased another book narrated by him as a result!

Excellent!
I often find myself criticizing one or more aspects of an audiobook and rarely take the time to rate anything, but I got to say that Deadbreak left me very satisfied. Excellent writing by Jorge; loved the story, action, and characters. And James gave a truly amazing performance, capturing what I believe was the author’s intent for every scene and really bring it to life in a way that only a few very talented narrators can. I will definitely be following these two for future works.
