Publisher's Summary

Detective Superintendent Jack Hawksworth of Scotland Yard has headed up three major serial operations, and in each of these cases, it seems he has lost a part of himself. He is burnt out and taken a shift sideways for a while, taking on a low-profile role of desk investigator out of London that's looking into whether a global crime scam exists.

But when a number of young women start returning home ill and dying after travels in Europe, Jack uncovers a shocking black-market operation, with links that lead him all the way to a crime syndicate in South Australia....

Enjoyable, but too many coincidences

I always enjoy Fiona McIntosh's books and this one didn't disappoint, but I did think that some of the coincidences stretched credulity. Also, I know that Jack is utterly irresistible and a great listener, but Jem baring her soul to him while he was still a virtual stranger, was rather unbelievable. Liked the twist towards the end - didn't see that one coming.

Excellent story, didn't disappoint.

Great to listen to Jack again, in the slightly husky tones of Jerome Pride. so easy to listen to. Fiona McIntosh takes her Detective superintendant Jack Hawksworth from London to South Australia on the hunt for a criminal group.
He works undercover, using his wit and charm to track them down. Absolutely loved visiting Adelaide and other SA places and history through his eyes.

Another great…

… read in this series. Thoroughly enjoying Jack Hawthorn’s character. One small observation tho for the author - it will quickly become tedious if Jack, who is an intelligent person, repeatedly has an ‘intimate relationship’ with the female protagonist. Just saying 😉
Narrator as previous, excellent.
