If you are unsure about this series, take a chance

and you won't regret it.

To be perfectly honest, I sat on the fence about starting this series. I love Larry's other books, but was worried this was going to be purely a tactical, military-centric book. Wow, was I wrong.

The characters are well thought out and you quickly become invested in their lives and actions.

And while there is plenty of tactical, black-ops action here, you definitely get the feeling that something else is building behind the scenes.

Narration ... to be perfectly honest, I was a little concerned about Bronson Pinchot being the narrator. Again, I was crazy wrong in this as well. He does an amazing job at switching between voices. I felt so immersed in the story telling, it was hard to believe that one person was doing all of the character voices. You could easily tell who was talking. But it was more than just character voices, it was also empathetic reading that hooked me. During scenes of high action and pressure, you could hear it in Bronson's voice ... not in a corny way at all, but rather in a hold yourself tightly and stop what you are doing type of thing. During scenes of sadness, it is tough not to get caught up in the emotion as he tells it.

What a great ride this book and the second book, which I highly recommend as well, has been. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Great story, characters, narration, and more

Literally stumbled across this book. I had read Correia's other books/series but wasn't aware of this one. Even though the book is longer (which I like b/c you get more bang for your buck), it doesn't drag on. I could've kept listening so I'm glad there's a sequel. The story keeps you guessing and takes you down several twists/turns as you try to figure out the bigger picture. Plenty of action and emotion is delivered throughout the book as well.

Enjoyed the narration and have listened to Pinchot in Correia's other series so I knew the quality would be great. He does an excellent job of managing multiple characters, personalities, and genders which is not an easy thing to do.

On to the sequel!

A Must Read!

Would you listen to Dead Six again? Why?

I finished the Grimmoir Chronicles, and felt darn, I'm really going to miss reading Larry Correia. This book surpassed my expectations, and Bronson Pinchot is absolutely awesome!

What did you like best about this story?

Tight story line, great characters, loved how the authors wove the two protagonists together.

What about Bronson Pinchot’s performance did you like?

Pinchot is so good, great voices, accents, he "fleshes" out each character, and brings them to life.

Good book poor reader

I like the story and the pace. But the reader ruins some of the lines. Some characters are put on so much they sound mentally handicapped. These are supposed to be hard chargers not chuckleheads

Good military thriller

One thing to note is that this is a military thriller along the lines of the Rogue Warrior series. Do not expect a supernatural element to this story the author had in his Grim Noir or MHI series (which you definitely should get if you haven't already). Other than that the writing is great and although there are two different authors working in tandem it really works! I work at the VA and the veterans love this series and were stoked to see it on audible. If the soldiers like it you know they've done a good job.

Only down side is it is pretty gun porn heavy. So, if that isn't your thing pass on this one. Otherwise it is a great listen. Bronson Pinchot does his usual superb job on the narration. Don't miss one.

Larry Correia + Bronson Pinchot= Bliss

Would you listen to Dead Six again? Why?

No, I never go back to a book - there are too many new ones to read!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Valentine - the plot dances between him and another character with different but daunting skills, but I'm on Team Valentine!

What about Bronson Pinchot’s performance did you like?

He has such a repertoire of voices, it is amazing. I always know which character is speaking... it kept me glued to earbuds, despite copious amounts of violence....

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Heroism and non-stop action!

Any additional comments?

Really, this book would appeal to young males who glory in violent video games, but yet, I'm female and in my 60's and I loved it!

Maybe better read than listened to

I enjoyed this book, and thought the narrator did a pretty good job with the material. This is a story that has 2 main male protagonists and they both speak in the first person. The problem is they are both North American with nondescript accents. So while the voices are pretty distinctive for all of the other characters, the two main characters sound pretty much the same. The change in POV is announced, but there were too many instances where I didn't know which character I was with until the content gave me a clue. This is no fault of the narrator, who is obviously skilled. I imagine that when the author describes a character with "no discernible accent", it kind of ties the narrator's hands. As a listener though, being 10+ hours into the book, and still not being able to really differentiate between the two main characters was almost enough to make me start listening to something else.

Dead Six ..who are they?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if prepared to read the series. Great characters. The military camaraderie rang true. The ever elusive Dead 6 group Although mentioned in the last half, of the book were not really exposed. I don't want to give away the plot, however , very entertaining and suspenseful.

What did you like best about this story?

The surprises revealed by sudden actions of the primary team. And the characters were 3 dimensional.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the team rushed the villains home. And fulfilled most of their mission. I like rebels, and one character is quite independent, and ignores protocol often.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Lots of smiles. No laughing or crying. But felt huge adrenalin rushes.

Any additional comments?

I would definately recommend this book. Even to my most critical listener, my husband! He's new to audibooks and never seen without his earbuds anymore.

Little hard to follow

This story is well written but is a little hard to follow listening to. This is especially true at the end where the two main characters (both written in the first person) converse quite a bit.

Bronson Pinchot does a very good job though and is very entertaining especially when performing the villain.

Dead brilliant

I read the first bit about three months ago and gave up, I was too busy with other things to understand who was who and got confused. Now I started the book in a two hour stint and everything fell into place. From then on it's been fantastic, Correia's humourous and fast-paced style (without the special gifts this time), in a realistic thriller setting that grips you by the throat and doesn't let go. Brilliant. I'm always stingy with the 5 stars but this book deserves it.
