Classic excellent Christie.

David Suchet *is* Hercule Poirot. There's nothing more to say about that, of course. And the story is excellent, a classic Christie mystery which left me guessing till the last minute - I usually have at least some of it figured out half way through, but not this one. On the other hand, two stars for Production - the editing was pretty bad - with gaps where there shouldn't be one and no gaps where there definitely should!! But if you can get past that, this is definitely worth getting

Suchet is superb

Suchet's narration is, as always, superb. For me he is the quintessential Poirot as he brings this fantastic story to life.

Surprisingly predictable

There was supposed to be a fake murder, it becomes real. How much more predictable does it need to get? Throw in also the murder mystery writer. With such cliched premises, it is hard to save the plot after that, no matter what twists there are.

Masterful Suchet

Even if you know the story and have seen the televised version, this book is a must just to hear David Suchet's masterful rendition of every single character. Sometimes you have to remind yourself you are not listening to a dramatized radio play, his variations and subtleties of character are so brilliant. A must-have just to marvel at a great actor on top of his form.

Fantastic

The fact that it has been years since I read this book and couldn't remember who the killer definitely added to my enjoyment however this was just an added bonus as David Suchet had me hooked from the very beginning and I shall be listening to it again very soon no doubt.

Surprised by poor Poirot

I like to listen to Agatha Christie's Poirot stories narrated by David Suchet or Hugh Fraser because they do such a good job of Poirot's voice. However, I was very disappointed with the narration of Poirot in this story. It didn't sound like Poirot at all. His voice was, if anything, somewhat creepy. It seems David Suchet had an off day. The story itself is excellent, classic Christie and is highly recommended.

Surprising narration!!

This is one of my favourite Christie stories and it is well told, David Suchet is a good narrator but in this he actually makes Poirot a character he’s synonymous with sound like something from ‘allo ‘allo! Definitely not a Belgian Detective more like a vaudevillian French man! For me that spoilt it somewhat as when acting on screen, he really is the best Poirot ever.

Plot holes

I know artistic license exists but the plot is full of holes. A certain character should have been charged as an accessory- without giving anything away- they knew about the first murder & who the killer was but this character is never held to account. I know Ms Christie’s intricate plots and shocking conclusions are interesting and we must suspend disbelief but in this case it’s ridiculous.

Unabridged little long.

Had to constantly rewind in order to understand the plot. David Suchet is not very good at different voice roles, although his portrayal of Poirot on screen is excellent. John Moffat is the best Poirot narrator.
