Roger Willemsen hat den alten Stoff bearbeitet und ihn für Erwachsene, aber ebenso für Kinder ab etwa acht Jahren, so neu erzählt, dass nicht die Frage des Gottesglaubens, sondern der Umgang mit dem Unglück im Zentrum steht. Entscheidend für diese Version der Geschichte ist nicht vor allem der Einbruch der Katastrophe in eine glückliche Welt, sondern der Versuch, diese Katastrophe zu verstehen, zu wenden und sich über das unvermeidliche Unglück zu trösten.
