In Paris findet der größte Jahrmarkt Frankreichs, der Foire du Trône statt. Lupin erhält den Auftrag, dem reichen Schausteller Samuel Plabon eine wertvolle goldene Schatulle zu stehlen. Lupin bewirbt sich bei Monsieur Plabon und darf schließlich als Clown verkleidet die Jahrmarktsbesucher dazu animieren, Plabons Buden, Stände und Karussells aufzusuchen. Gerade als Lupin den ersten Versuch unternehmen will, die Schatulle zu stehlen, überschlagen sich die Ereignisse. Schließlich kommt es sogar soweit, dass sich Arsène Lupin dazu entschließt, Auguste Dupin und Edgar Allen Poe um Hilfe zu bitten...
