Greedy author, unfinished story

This is a single book broken into 4 parts by a greedy author. The for together would have equaled a single book in both length and content. If the books were cheaper because of this that would be one thing, but they are not. Pure greed. Sadly I am enjoying the story so I will purchase the last two "books" but I will never, ever, read this greedy author again, nor recommend him.

A Quick Enjoyable Read

4.5 out of 5 stars

It’s been a while since I’ve read this much drama in a Post-Apocalyptic book. Not all of the drama is from what you’re used to in PA books as well. There was some relationship drama in Darkest Days as well. I thought that Craven did a great job writing it out in a way that felt real and a way that would make sense with his plot so far. He even got a little meta and talked about (maybe a slight spoiler here) how quickly certain people were forgiven. I chuckled at that.

Darkest Days picks off where book two left off… thank god. Craven left us in a dark area at the end of the last one and I gave him crap for it. It was one of the biggest cliffhangers I’ve experienced and I was glad to know that Darkest Days was being released in audio shortly after. Once Days was released, I picked it up and quickly read the first couple of chapters to make sure all was well (he left quite a lot in the air at the end of the last book).

I fight this inner battle with ~6 hour PA books. I love them because they contain great stories in small portions but dislike them because authors are able to split books up (basically at a major point in the book) and make you read the next one. I went to school for marketing, so I get the reason, but it’s also hard when there isn’t an arc. Thankfully, Craven is good at writing inner-arcs for each story but keeping the overarching arc (well that feels redundant) there for you to pick back up in the next book.

This one might be my favorite so far because it had a bit of everything. There was action, drama, a little romance, a little love triangle, loving dogs, and even some rebuilding action. Craven definitely wrote another winner with this one and I’m glad that I was able to read it so close to its release (and soon after I finished book two).

I’m not sure how many books he’s expecting to write in this series but I could definitely see it ending in four or five books. It’s definitely feeling like the terror and the “bad guys” days are coming to an end. I’ll be along for the ride until it’s over though.

Very happy with 3rd book

I wasn't going to read these books, I'm happy I did. Not only does it have a lot of prepping in it, it has everything else. No Zombies. Death, action, love, sadness. Very happy with this book

gawd Damn It Boyd ! Fn Great book

As much as I want to shake the authors hand for a job well done a full on smack across the mouth would serve him right as well.

Just Gets Better and Better

This series is so good. And the third book just builds on the second. Wes is able to save his dog Raider, but relationships get complicated in the PA world. After a narrow escape in book two, Wes is dealing with the complicated feelings of being forced to kill Jessica's dad. And the relationship...complicated. Somehow Boyd Craven has been able to bring a relationship/ relationship triangle into the PA. But things just continue to get more complicated and rival groups continue to close in. And they're not friendly. Kudos to Craven for making this book engaging, without getting too gritty. We all know things will really be as bad as possible in a PA world, but it's important to making the fiction escapist too. A nice balance is struck here.

Kevin Pierce couldn't be better. He elevates everything he narrates. It just doesn't get better. Can't wait for the next book with the Flagg crew.

Excellent story broken into 5 parts.

This has been a really great series. Feels like an old fashioned TV show where each episode ends just as something happens and you have to wait for the next episode to find out who survived and who didn’t.
In that same respect, I get those who complain about this being only part of a book. This one actually felt short to me. I really enjoy a nice long novel in excess of 10 hours. These books could easily be combined into a book or two and be really good but the author (or someone) has chosen to break this into multiple shorter stories. It is easy to assume that this is done for profit as all of Audible’s books are 1 credit and therefore the same price unless you buy them for cash. That makes this 5 book series 5 credits instead of 1 credit for one story as this most certainly is just one story broken into 5 books. Even a good trilogy that tells a contiguous story through the three books is still three complete stories with natural beginning and ending points for each book.

This is definitely a good read but I would wait for the “Omnibus” edition and get them all at once.

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Too short for the price.

It's a good story but books 1&2 could be combined for a good book and it would make the price worth the amount of entertainment you get. I listen to audiobooks at work and it gets pricey to finish a book and a half in one day. not sure I'll finish the series for this reason.

Good series

The series is short per book, but the story and the narration are spot on.
